I am very optimistic about the future. For the first time in a long time, I am not *expecting* the Lions organization to bugger everything up. They've got what looks to be a first class GM and head coach and they definitely have top rate offensive and defensive co-ordinators. They're re-building the defense from the (already very effective) line (being able to pressure QB's with just your front four is a *major* plus), and are probably just a few linebackers and DB's away from being able to slow down opponents enough so that they cannot keep up with what is already shaping up to be a venerable offense. I still, when bored, bring up some B. Sanders highlight clips on Youtube. That is some amazing stuff to watch. My wife has been subjected to many, many of these highlight reels; forced to nod and agree every time I pause it and ask "Can you believe his knee didn't just explode?!"
 
I'm a lukewarm hockey fan, although enjoy a good game. The Vancouver Canucks have a good team, and their power play is excellent. I have family members who have been waiting and waiting and watching and waiting and watching and waiting for them to win the Stanley Cup after 40yrs....

Went to see MTL/TOR in MTL 2 years ago. Was a KILLER time!

Nothing better to watch on TV hands down.

Olympic hockey is the only thing that could give me grey hair. SO EXCITING!
 
Also forgot to mention that I love to play the game also. Hit the ice once a week for shift hockey and try to make it out at least one day for pickup. Can't move as fast as I used to though. This age thing is a real bummer. Mind says to play hard but the body says slow down.

It was loud, is my biggest memory of the Barn. And dark compared to the modern rinks.

And the second level seats were very steep so you were right on top of the ice.

I went to a few games there, I was lucky enough to attend the final hockey game played on Olympia ice by the Wings. It wasn't an NHL game, it was a legends game, the old timers like Howe and Lindsay laced em up against the current Wings. That was in 1980.

I also got to see Pink Floyd there in the mid seventies..that was cool.

I hope the new Arena we are perpetually about to get has one half the charachter that Olympia had.

+1...I don't even want to talk about it in fear of jinxing them...and that shoulder. I'm sure you know, it's been "wait till next year" around here for 40 years.

Love the Barry highlite reels as well, that guy could make his body move in three directions at once...amazing.
 
Hey LS2JSTS and you say 1980 as that was the year I was born! Must have been a great sight to see the legends play against the then current red wings! Yeah I hear the "OLD RED BARN" Olympia Stadium was kinda like the [censored] old BOSTON GARDEN arena. I am a history guy so I like the stylin of those old stadiums/arenas. I like the OLD IGLOO myself. Sad they are gonna tear it down in the springtime! Great article I read in a USA TODAY I found in a car today; Lidstrom says he may re sign for 2-3 yrs as he says he's still very healthy.

Big fan of Roy (personal reasons), and was rather bummed when he left.

I can also say something leafs fans can't: I remember the last time my team won the cup

30 year Flyers season ticket holder, 2 seats 2nd level, front row.....took forever to get there :-)
Barring any major inuries I think this is the Flyers year.
