Correct, I'm not currently driving the car on a track, but will do this summer. Another E92 M3 owner on m3post.com does 7~8 track events per oil change with 10W40, and his Blackstone UOA report shows normal wear for the S65 engine.

Not in the instrument cluster. Maybe in Idrive but doubt it.
There are a bunch of hidden menus in there and I'm positive I've seen people looking at a lot of weird things. Too bad it isn't user-selectable. Then again, it could be a dummy readout that can only show low or high.
Well at 302lb-ft the change is very minimal so I doubt you'll feel a difference. The M-DCT does a wonderful job at changing gears as well to be in the correct power band so I doubt it would be a hindrance.
Haha you're thinking about SMG. DCT is a whole different animal but time will tell. If its designed anything like Porsche's PDK it should be pretty solid. If it breaks though... enjoy paying that bill lol.
People driving M3s shouldnt care about something as small as the bill for a DCT repair.
I didnt buy DCT on my 135i because I just plain like shifting...A 7th gear would have been neat on my MT though! Super low overdrive getting me 35 MPG would have been awesome!
DCT and SMG are very appealing to me. You get the same or even better performance as the manual trans without the hassle. As much as I love driving stick (been doing it for 10 years), it is tiring at times.
No offense guys, but I have seat time in a v-10 M5 and they STINK! Clunky, noisy, rough shifting and may have longevity issues as well.
My favorite is the Nissan GT-R, which frequently sounds like a bowl of rocks at a traffic light.
Porsche has the best one going, very well sorted out and it's good for very high torque loads as well. It is also cool that it shares many parts with the regular manual 7 speed!
Either way, the driveability stank. Really bad for such a nice car.
We should probably talk about my real estate buddy's newer M3.
He has little good to say about it. It works well on the track, but there is no way the typical person is going to confuse it with a nice auto trans when just tooling around!
Add to that he's had unscheduled visits to his friendly BMW dealer to get it looked at for balky behavior.
