Hello,

I'm buying a 1991 plymouth acclaim 3.0 v6 from a co-worker, The car have 120,000 miles and looks good for its age. I'm getting ready to do some maintenance...timing belt, water pump, fuel filter,tune-up and change all the fluids, I have a gallon of zerex g-05 but wanted to know if I can use the g-05 or what would be a compatible coolant for a older model Plymouth vehicle...Thank you.

Yes G05 is a correct coolant type for that vehicle, but whatever is in there you probably want to flush with Distilled water incase a previous owner added a dex clone.

G-05 coolant should be fine after thoroughly flushing out the entire cooling system.

The Mitsubishi engine is due plenty of maintenance at this mileage. Several drain and fills might be necessary for the 3-speed auto trans too. Other maintenance items might include worn-out struts, brakes and rotors, spark plugs and wires, air filters, A/C System repairs, heater core (?), belts, hoses, vacuum lines, and a weak fuel pump.

Good luck with your preventive maintenance, which could be more than a 25 year old vehicle is worth.

Personally, your co-worker should give you a bigger price-break on the vehicle since you'll likely be putting in or having someone else do required maintenance to the tune of $1,500 - $2,000 worth of work.

Keep an eye on oil consumption as the valve guide seals might be hardened causing oil to easily enter the combustion chamber.

Thanks guys, I'm lucky to have the know how to do the work myself. Since it have a Mitsubishi v6 engine what type of spark plugs would you suggest? Thanks.

its good to hear from another plymouth owner i have a 1999 plymouth breeze that uses a 4cyl mitsubishi motor i use champion plugs they have been in there for 4 years and perform great not sure the exact price but they are very cheap
if i replace them i would consider getting ac delco rapidfire or bosch (high end plugs)

Hello Jacky...Great to know there's a few Plymouth owners out there, All the info I can get about my Plymouth acclaim I would love to know. I ordered a repair manual so hopefully the repairs should make things a little easier.

Hi charmer37,
Welcome, I have several old Mopars, One of the DD's is a 1994 Acclaim with 2.5l I4. Currently have ~240k miles. I use AMAM 5/50,000 from Walmart in all my old cars/vans. Switching to G-05 will be fine, but do a good flush with distilled water first. I think the G-05 AF was first used from the 96 models. Hope this helps.

Breeze did not have a 4 cylinder Mitsubishi engine. The 2.0 and 2.4 were Neon based. As Breeze didn't offer a V6,the related cloud car 2.5 V6 was Mitsubishi made
