By now we know that the ZDDP ester has been one of the best anti-oxidant and anti-wear compounds ever developed, which makes it a multi-functional additive component.
But anti-oxidants with zero or very low levels of heavy metal content are more desireable in certain driveline lubricants.
Mercaptobenzthiazoles and beta-thiodialkanols are derived from heterocyclic sulfur- and oxygen-containing compositions.
