This substance is an Olefin copolymer that is useful in release agents, and in applications for retaining oil films where inertial conditions are present.

What is the functional name for this substance?

Guidelines for the Question of the Day:

1. No Piston Cup Lapel Pin will be awarded to the same person within 14 days of a previous award.

2. Please respond with a complete sentence.

Tackifiers are copolymers synthesized from specific ratios of ethylene–propylenes. Tackifiers can also be blends of PIB with ethylene–propylene copolymers.

Tackifiers are used where you want stickiness or "cling" imparted to a lubricants such as ways oils, bar and chain oils, and in greases.

Since OVERKILL posted the first correct answer, he is the proud recipient of the Piston Cup Lapel Pin.
