disclaimer: i'm not an NRA member, i do not own guns
but...
simple: people with money bragging about it to the world.
so why give them their 5 minutes of fame?

"Before Mr. Weinstein and Miss Streep start production of their multimillion-dollar effort to persuade Americans to give up their guns, they might want to look at the history books of what happens when you do".

Just [censored]' in the wind. The NRA is here to stay.

So the folks who would likely see the movie are not likely to be NRA members. The folks who are NRA members are not likely to see the movie.

They'll "feel good" about all the "good" they are doing and some folks will get paid.

Not much else will happen.

Yep.

Seriously, who cares what these people think? Wasn't Ms. Streep the one who got all angsty before Congress over apples or something while shilling for the NRDC?

I don't know anything about Mr. Wienstein.

I am an NRA member and I donate to their legislative arm.

edit: And I will watch their movie, as long as I don't have to pay anything extra to do it beyond my normal sat tv bill. I support the first amendment as vigorously as the second, even though I think their order in the Bill of Rights should be have been reversed.

All this will do is reassure the anti gun movement they are right, and cause the pro gun movement to dig in even more. If there is one effect of sabre rattling from the anti NRA groups and politicians when they get media attention is that firearm and ammo sales go up. Essentially the anti gun people get the opposite of what they want. No other people have been better firearm sales people than the likes of the usual sponsors and supporters of gun control bills(Feinstein, Pelosi, Boxer, Schumer, Cuomo, Biden, PoTUS).

If The fearmongering NRA needs a beatdown - but I dont think this will do it.
Ironically, Weinstien is the executive producer of Django Unchained - a big shoot r up, Ive read.

Isn't this the SAME individual who made his fortune off of movies heavily portraying gun violence???

Good point. But interesting that it is a very small proportion of people who are buying a disproportionate number of guns and stocking up on ammo.

Also, Bill Clinton spoke very insightfully about this topic, and for that matter any legislative topic where the majority expresses a preference and outcome that does not transpire and his insight was that when a minority is committed and the majority is not in for the fight, the minority can win.

I suspect Weinstein is doing his bit, in the best way he can, to show the majority do care about this issue. Lets see whether the rest of the majority become passionate enough about this issue.

The right to defend myself, my family, and my home does not come from any Government. It comes from God above. And that is how it will be.

A large portion of gun owners are secretive about their ownership. Within the last year a newspaper published Westchester County NY (very liberal and 2nd or 3rd wealthiest county in US IIRC) handgun ownership map. To many, the very large number of handgun owners throughout the county was surprising to say the least. Now add rifles to that number...

This is akin to being Catholic. It's not mainstream media "ok" to be Catholic or to own a gun. The fringe of each party has become so vocal, so disparaging, and spewed such intense venom; that the remaining 80% of the middle ground are fearful to express where they stand.

Yes it is. The irony is amazingly intense, eh?

Typical Hollywood hypocrite...

He was open to looking at the role of movies in all of this.

Can any of you name someone prominent who is for gun control who has also called for banning guns altogether?

I haven't heard anyone talking about banning guns. People can be pro gun and pro gun control at the same time.

Now let's not turn this into a California thing.

Hahaha, not bashing, but it IS located there!

C'mon, this guy made his money off of violence and his movies featured guns.

No matter where he works from he remains a terrible hypocrite...
