Anti Drone Warfare tool\equipment considerations.

Drone warfare, is an important "new" facet in modern warfare. It is a force to be reckoned with. Here I would like to discuss with all and especially those who understand the technology of drones, their capability and defeation.

I am an "old dog". So I understand little about their capabilities beyond typical radio control, and its defeation......so the only thing I have to contribute would be a good tool for the physical destruction of a drone in modern warfare.

An old shotgun, a beast of a weapon, but could be the best choice for soldiers. Perhaps add a person to the typical 8 man squad, a nith guy, a shotgunner? I think so.

A shotgun has a pretty limited effective range. There are probably small recon drones and large weapons drones. What are you shooting down, the kind that hover or the kind that fly like a little airplane?

Is there a home brew way to make a radar system that would not upset the locals?

I think shotguns are going to be making a comeback in the military as well. Especially with fiberoptic drones that are more or less un-jam-able.

One problem is that drones are a description of all sorts of weapons from an amateur light weight for propellor unit holding a IED, to a large plane sporting a 3 cylinder turbocharged Bombardier or equivalent engine. I believe the light weight ones were the one buzzing individual soldiers lately.

If they were to use small drones, they would likely use a mesh - possibly thousands of drones bringing small payloads each - working together via a network.

Hmmm, disagreed. These drones are not too big, nor are they armored. They are very susceptible to a shotgun blast to a rotor

For clarification, we are talking a drone, not a UAV, like a predator....this is about small, locally controlled drones, namely ones used in a current conflict in Eastern Europe.

And there are POV videos on YouTube of Ukrainian drones hovering over and dropping a mortar shell down the hatch of a Russian tank.

drones half a mile up and of that size are AA fodder over a frontline, it's fpv drones that you can and need to worry about, those have a 5-10 mile range and ram themselves onto their target, usually with an rpg warhead.
