Anti drain back valve came apart

Pulled this filter out of a Mercedes this morning. Found a bunch of hardened plastic like stuff in the housing. Looks like the valve became rock hard and broke apart.

Next to a new filter. I don't see a name on the old filter. New is a Mann.

Low bidder/subbed a different polymer without qual/some crazy solvent in fuel and or oil/super extended run and/or combination......

Is that a white silicone rubber ADBV on the new filter? Or some kind of white felt material ... photo is washed out pretty good.

How long has that failed filter been in the engine. Doubt it was the oil's fault.

The hardened one may have come from a cost cutting shop. Good work. I just plugged in 2020 and some kind of Mercedes. Sprinter 1500 with 2.0 or something.

That doesn't look like the Mann. both ends of the filter look different from the Mann HU 711/6.

I suspect someone went cheap on the last oci, at least on the filter.

Because the filter media is too pale? That could be just bad lighting.

Nope, no evidence of counterfeit. The Mann HU 711/6 in his pics looks very much like those on EBay.
