Another Wix 57899, 8000KM.

Up for dissection today is a Wix 57899. Sponsored by Chevron Blue LOL.

This was used for 8000KM on a Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. I used Klondike Synthetic Blend 5W20.

I put in Chevron Supreme 5W20, with a Napa Gold 1372. Yes I know this is the incorrect filter. The only difference is a slightly higher bypass pressure. It was a leftover filter, and I don't want to waste it.

This filter is in a terrible position to get at, so I always end up banging them up with the filter wrench. I guess I'll use a strap / band style wrench next time.

I think I'm going to end up using an extended performance filter i.e. M1 / FU. The engine is pretty clean according to what came out. I'll change the oil once then change the filter and oil on the next service when I use a EP filter.


Pretty boring, looks like the other 57899 I pulled off earlier.

Wix has been making good oil filters for a long time but they were not always easy to find for the average Joe..

Now it at least you can go to your local wal mart and ger a super tech which is Wix made.

Looks good! I use this same filter on my father's 2013 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7L.

I get them at a smaller chain parts store. They only have four locations and they are all within a 20KM range. Except one. They are pretty competitive with their pricing.

Same thing for me, as it is with Farmer. Check for parts stores affiliated with Uni-Select. You can find their website in any search engine and it has a location finder.

YES THATS THE PLACE. My parts store is affiliated with Uni-Select. I kept thinking of the name but I couldn't remember what it was.

It took me a few minutes to figure it out, too. I was thinking the generic branding of the parts store was the nation wide name, and no, that didn't work. So, I had to go to the parts store's website, which, as you might expect, is fairly rudimentary, and did some digging there, and figured it out from there. The Uni-Select logo itself is on my parts store's building and website, but really wasn't much help all on its own.

As an aside, Auto Extra oil filters made by Wix and sold in the States are affilatied with Uni-Select and may even say Uni-Select on the can iirc. The new Walmart SuperTech filter looks be very similar to or same as the current Auto Extra oil filter.

Yes. I dread doing oil changes on dads truck. There's no way to do it without making a mess. Filter doesn't come straight down, have to pull it out from the front. Might try using a plastic paint mixing cup to catch the mess next time and hold my arm up there for a minute or so.

Yeah, I use a form a funnel on dads when I change it; little better but still a PITA

I like working on my Cummins more, don't tell him I said that. When I pull the filter down nothing spills over. I guess that's the benefit of having a full flow filter.

That's interesting to know. I wasn't even sure if Uni-Select extended into the States.
