Another USPS Package Odyssey

Sometimes I wonder how the logistics people/software come up with this sort of thing...I ordered a package to be delivered to a relative in Northwest Indiana. Package started out in Metro NY. It left there and went to:

1) Chicago Distribution Center (passing by Gary, IN - this will be relevant in a few stops)
2) Bedford Park, IL (farther west from Indiana)
3) Gary, IN, Regional Facility
4) Arrived at local PO and showed as preparing for delivery on the tracking app
5) Back to Bedford Park, IL
6) Back to Gary, IN
7) Arrived at local PO again
8) Finally showing at being out for delivery with an estimated time.

I don't have any beef with the postal service, but sometimes I have to wonder who's running things there, and why.

I see the same things. I have had three packages just simply disappear in the tracking system. One appeared in my mail box about a month late.
I do not think anybody is in charge at the USPS.

I ordered a set of tires once from Discount Tire Direct (may they rest in peace) and three arrived next day and one came on the second day. It was very fast service.

I received a phone call from Discount Tire Direct about a week later from a gentleman telling me that they had lost track of my order and couldn't find it in their system. He called to apologize and arrange for a new shipment of tires to be sent. I let him know the tires had arrived in record time and that they were already installed and I was enjoying them.

I took the opportunity to ask for some swag because I love stickers, t-shirts, etc., and they sent me a nice Pirelli hat.

I had the same issue a couple months ago. The tracking number still works..... I live in the west suburbs and my local post office is supplied by the Carol Stream regional facility, so once my item gets there, I usually see it the next day. Not this time though:

1. Originated at Battle Ground Washington
2. Vancouver WA
3. Portland OR
4. Carol Stream IL
5. Indianapolis IN
6. Carol Stream IL
7. Huntley IL
8. Chicago general facility
9. Carol Stream IL
10. Finally arrived at my local post office.

Three time it came so close!

Funny this thread is here. Ordered my wife one of those electric Blackstone grill things from HomeDepot. I get free shipping and Military Discount.

FedEx shipment started in Alabama, went to Kennesaw, GA, then said "delayed" for two days. Then, went to a depot in North Carolina, then BACK to Kennesaw?

Today, it says out for delivery.

So, USPS isn't the only ones that do weird stuff....

Many people who work in a bureaucracy are only concerned about getting their paycheck.

Many only tolerate anything about the job because if they did not, they would be fired.

Expect that they don't give a dam about doing the job and you won't be disappointed.

Orig in VA then off to NJ then 3000miles west to AZ where it still is and im in CT 3000 miles east of there. What sense does any of that make? should have just paid a few xtra $$ and used UPS. My bad

I remembered reading this thread, thought I'd share a current experience. Sixteen calendar days ago, wife mailed two thank you/greeting cards to family members. One going SW to the ATL area ~275 road miles. The other going East, eastern NC, ~200 road mi. Neither card has arrived yet. :( No tracking, so no clue where they sit now.

Fwiw, can't recall things ever being this bad. That said, I do have a fair knowledge of the current PG, and while I could say much more, I'll leave it at, 'if you can't say anything nice....."

Imagine what went on with Ben Franklin's PO before we had "Informed Delivery" emails. My town FB group is polluted with people asking if anyone else got their packages. Said packages show up a day late.

Thought I'd update my last post. One of the aforementioned cards finally delivered yesterday. That's 24 days to go ~200 road miles in the same state. The one going to the ATL area, still out there somewhere. smh :(

I'm very rural in southern central Missouri. There is no second day most items from Amazon. USPS, UPS and FEDEX doesn't matter some items see more of the country than I've had. We don't get excited or pissed. If i needed it now or second day try to buy it local. Walmart they seem to do a better job with packages but they are not my first or second pic.

And I've got another one...package left Secaucus, NJ, went to the Kearny, NJ, distribution center. Arrived in Chicago (first trip past destination in NW Indiana), then went to Bedford Park, IL. So far, so good. Left Bedford Park and went to...wait for it...New Orleans, LA (technically second trip past destination). From there it went to Saint Rose, LA. Left there to go to...Cincinnati, OH. Bounced around there between the regional facility and another facility, then went to...Chicago (third trip past destination). Left there to go to Bedford Park, again. Current status is "In transit to next Facility. Arriving late." Glad they clarified that because I wouldn't have figured it out on my own. :D I wish I got frequent flyer miles for the trips my packages take.

Have two different packages, sent at different times to two different buyers in this almost exact loop.
