Hi guys,

You all helped me earlier this summer with a question I had about taking my car out of storage when fresh Full Synthetic was put in immediately beforehand. That was earlier this summer.

Well, I changed the oil about a month ago. Again, its Valvoline Full Synthetic. I will park and the car in winter, but by then, that Full Synthetic will have less than 600 miles on it. Do I need to change it before storage? All I'd really like to get away with is changing it immediately AFTER storage this spring, and not do it now.

Thank you for your help! I know I don't post much, but I read these boards all the time and have learned a lot.

If I lived near you I would ask you to drain it into a clean container and give it to me to use. With only 600 miles that is still new oil and too good to throw away.

I'll keep it short and not bore you with how I prep the car. Do whatever it is you do to the car to prepare it for storage. Take it on a nice long highway ride, 30 minutes or more on the highway, and park it where it will be stored. The oil you have in the sump will be fine.

I've always stored my boats and vehicles by warming up the engines, changing the oil, run them for a min to get the new oil circulated, and then put it away. This has been debated forever, some people feel it is better to change the oil at the beginning of the season because condensation and stuff can build up while stored, therefore it is fresh when you go to use it, and then others say that the old oil has water, acid, etc in it that eats away at stuff while stored therefore you change it with fresh oil before you store it. I've always done it before I store it, not saying it is the 100% correct way, just something I've always done and I've never had any issues.

This ^

I have several off road only vehicles and change the oil every couple of years. used oil analysis are fine. The Wrangler in my sig has gone 2.5 years. I'll be changing it before the snow flies.

Cool, even better than I thought. I'll keep my oil in and maybe even get another 1000 or so miles next summer. Thanks guys!

I'm serious. My dad's '64 corvair sometimes only sees 1000 miles on amsoil. I told him he should give it to me. But he takes it to a shop so it just goes into the waste oil tank.
