I've recently been buying some Beck Arnley parts and I've been pretty satisfied with what I've received.

Some of you may already know this, but BA offers a line of pads sourced from OE suppliers. This is their O89 series of pads.

More info in this PDF:

Here's also a video that talks about the product line:

But, nowhere did it specifically say they use the OE friction material. I emailed to find out, and they told me they do use the OE material formula.

Here was my email:

I have a question about the 089 series foreign branded brake pads program. I've watched the informational videos and read the documents on your website, but I can't seem to find the answer.

I know the pads are sourced from OE suppliers, but do they use the same friction formula to the original equipment pads that came on the vehicle? I know they should fit as well as OE pads, but nowhere does it say that they'll use the same friction formula, and have the same performance characteristics, as the OE pads.

And here's the response:

Thank you for your interest in Beck/Arnley product and to answer your question directly, yes. We do match material on the 089 pads, these are coming from the specific manufacturers who supply the OE pads and are specified with the same formulation as OE. That said there are always a few exceptions to the rule were there may be some limitations based on contractual agreements that could be in place, but these are few and far between. The resolution doesn’t affect the basic material, construction, or performance of the product but simply the appearance and or markings on the pad itself.

The 089 pads will always meet the same material and performance standards of the product supplied by the OE dealer.

Long story short, this is another source for people who are looking for the same friction material originally installed on the car.

They sell [censored] too. Just got a set of 089 series for my 99 Avalon. They were made in China. The chamfering looked like it was done by a chipmunk and the slots were not almost all the way through the pad with uneven depth. They actually looked like factory rejects. No, I did not put them on my car.

Are you sure they were the 089 series?

I know some of their aftermarket replacement pads lines (not the 089 series) are made in China.

The Previa got a set of 089 series pads on the front, and Centric 100 series on the rear.

The 089 series pads were Advics, and the shims that came with them were the double-layered stainless steel. The pads came in an Advic box. The shims were very close (but not identical) to the factory ones, closer than the teflon-coated ones that Centric ships.

Amazon sells Beck/Arnley pads for a great price, as my set was only $39. However, it does not include a new hardware kit like the Centric 100 series does.

Also, note that these OE part programs may not be very good about part updates. For instance, the current dealer pad for the 04-08 TSX has v-springs included and holes drilled in the pads to accommodate them. Neither the Centric 100 series pads nor the Beck/Arnley 089 program has this update.

Beck Arnley does not make any parts, they are just a marketing company, in other words they just rebox. If you Feel the need you can always go OE and they will have the newest updated friction material for your car. We have been using some Centric pads in our shop and have had no complaints (yet) I believe their friction material to be a good product and yest the 100 series is OE, but is also updated to meet noise, dusting concerns. This is correct, they source parts from OE suppliers, although I wouldn't classify that as only "marketing."

Yeah, the 087 series are not an OE part program.

Generally, the Centric 100 series are a far better value than Beck/Arnley's 089 program. Provided that you get fresh stock, the 100 series comes with new teflon-coated shims and new hardware clips and springs.

So far, I have been paying under $40 for the Centric 100 series on most applications - and that is hard to beat. I only use Centric 100 series on older cars or newer cars were there have not been any significant updates to the Genuine pad.

I think this depends on application. I've just been looking at pads for some of our vehicles. On Amazon and Rock Auto the B/A pads are still cheaper, even if you consider the cost of a hardware kit.

But, as always it pays to shop around.
