I've owned in the neighborhood of 175 cars in my life(most bought to resell) and I can tell you model, year, engine transmission, and axle ratio on all my regular drivers... On the resells, I'd say 98% make, model, engine, trans but prob not axle ratio... Awhile back I did look at some old paper work from the '80s and noticed one I took in trade was a 4dr, I have sworn it only had two... LOL

You never know, paperwork can be wrong.

I know all about DMV errors, I have a '72 Mercury Comet(Maverick twin) that's a 2Dr hatchback according to the state of VA, was never a hatchback built in those bodies...

I'm 99.9% sure my memory was just bad on the one I mentioned, by the by the bill of sale and VIN it had four doors...

My office had a laugh a few years ago. A well to do guy (late 20s early 30s?) in a BMW had a flat tire right outside our office. So what does he do? Calls AAA ... which turns out to be this dinky young girl in a ponytail. So while he looks uncomfortable as all get out, she's slaving away in 100+F heat putting on his spare for him, while all of us are laughing our [censored] off.

I only ever had to call AAA for a tire once: I had the LR go flat my Magnum, and no matter what I tried, I COULD NOT GET THE LUG NUTS LOOSE! (In hindsight, it was parked on an incline, so actually lifting it could have been dicey.) When the AAA guy showed up, it was a huge black dude (6'5", probably 300lbs and 4' shoulders) who looked like he made a wrong turn en-route to the Patriots' defensive line...even he couldn't budge the lugs with a 4-way. He wound up putting a 4' jack handle on his breaker bar, which finally got them loose.

The scary part: the gorilla with the impact gun was the DEALER! (I'd just had the brakes done.)

Liz has gotten some funny responses when she pulls up in a wrecker...one of the funniest when she had to change a 22.5" tire on a shuttle bus. (She did it, and the driver was stunned when she lifted the flat tire over her head and onto the deck of the rollback.)

I would say that EVERYBODY that actively drives a vehicle should have a basic knowledge on how to check and add oil, as well as how to check other fluid levels on regular basis.

Agreed and even a worse excuse if a man does not know how or refuses. I imagine there is not too many men who fail to check their oil and blame their wives and daughters for not doing it for them when something catastrophic happens.

Regardless if a man or woman, if you can learn to drive a car and pump gas in it, then popping the hood once a month or so to check the oil is withing someones learning scope.

One of my best friends is exactly like that. I change his oil, and do all his maintenance. He does not know how to check his oil, tire pressure, coolant, air filter etc, AND he refuses to learn when i try to show him. Boils my blood. Maybe I should stop maintaining it for him. Hes the way he is cause all he does is sit inside, when hes not at college, and watch ESPN ( sports fanatic is an understatement, hes insane when it comes to watching sports)

I would reevaluate your "best friend" status as it sounds like you are being used as a door mat with his refusal to learn or care.

Sometimes it take an expensive lesson for people to get and understand they have a responsibility to learn this stuff.
