Another "pretty good' RA return experience

I ordered an OE fuel pump assy for a '00 Cavalier. The box was correct but the pump actually in the box was for something else (I believe an '07 Yukon or similar)

On the left is what I received, still in-tank is what I need and product images confirm the part # I ordered should also look like what I need, not what was in the box:

Going through the return process, I somehow didn't select the right answer to one of their many questions, and it wanted me to pay return shipping.

To be clear, if it's a situation where I ordered in error, no longer need the part or the customer canceled, I'm happy to pay return shipping. But this was not my error and I immediately ordered a replacement overnight (annoying I have to pay overnight due to their error, but that's another argument altogether)

I sent an email to RA and they provided a prepaid label for the return. So yeah, it's still a hassle but I half expected them to ignore me. Mistakes happen and life isn't fair.

I'm not a huge RA fan but they at least listened to my complaint on return shipping and addressed it. Thus I'm still not fiercely loyal but willing to continue shopping with them.

Good to hear. Here’s my take on next day shipping. I hate to do it at work.

Last week I shipped a tablet and 3 cables for forklifts and it cost $190, instead of $20. That’s fine if 3 people could work 1 day sooner (it’s only 2 days to GA).

But more often than not the box reaches the site and they don’t even know, even though they asked for overnight (their profit center is paying).

I simply respect that it’s the company’s money and we should all do the right thing. Since our revenue is 5 bil does it matter? Probably not, but I still am driven to save.

In your case you’re in the middle of a job and so it’s worth it!

I agree, it killed me to do it because I'm a cheapskate and love to save a penny. But I was almost kinda proud of myself because I was able to step back and employ some perspective: this time the extra ~$50 in shipping is worth getting it off the lift three days sooner.

When I look back in a month, I won't care in the least about the additional expense.

I just got notice it was delivered, about noon MST here. Now to go see if this one is correct!!

Ok the new one (left) is correct, although there's some odd handwriting on the box. I think they had a real mix-up with some of these.

I had a similar issue recently with some parking brake shoes for my 2012 Ram. The shoes were clearly something different than what was in the box. They paid to ship them back for free. Pretty easy to do.

Just my $0.02

My last “return” with RockAuto went well. The $16 or value wasn’t enough to justify them wanting it back. I did it all online, quite quickly. The defective part was a Delphi mechanical fuel pump for my AMC Gremlin and the arm would not move at all, aside from the small bit of slop it had. I could have opted for them to send me another Delphi pump, but I decided to take the refund and go with a $25 GMB pump, which I’ve heard is less likely to fail and is made in South Korea (vs. China). Carter pumps for that model were sold out… everywhere. I haven’t yet started it with the new pump. I still need to modify the radiator mounting setup for the new Champion aluminum aftermarket radiator I installed. Using the stock holes, the fan blades hit it.

In 2020 I got a GM OE front rotor that was opened as it had grease from a hand print (GM have a white gray appearance from being baked in nitrogen).

The only difference with Amazon is they shipped/released the replacement once the defective part showed in the FedEx system…painless

P.s. had two warranties handled by them no issues
