First class postage stamps increase from 78 cents to 82 cents on July 12. USPS continues to run in the red and will continue to even with the increase. I have to wonder if the discounted delivery of Amazon packages and such are part of the problem. I know their service has really deteriorated in recent years.

Different Strokes. I think the USPS is Amazing with the mail amounts the USPS processes and delivers daily!

I received a junk mail solicitation the other day and the metered postage was just over 12 cents. Moving lots of junk probably adds up financially but the normal consumer is getting the shaft. The greeting card business will be non-existent soon and my xmas card list will get shorter and shorter. I'd be perfectly happy to see the junk mail business disappear and save a few trees at the same time.

The issue is not Amazon. Possibly they don't help matters, but the two issues are 1) legacy pension and health care costs and 2) there mandate to deliver to every address 6 days a week. Driving way out in the country to deliver one letter at the same 82 cents is not cost effective.

No one will fix the problem - until it finally blows up. They never do.

I have found their mail delivery to be poor. It took eight days last month for a letter to come from New York to my place in Maryland. Last year I sent some sensitive information via Priority mail and it arrived a week later

Yes, there service is poor. So people take there important stuff to the private carriers, which lowers there volume and makes there service worse. Its a spiral down.

Place I buy my whole bean coffee is about 23 miles away. They do "free" shipping on the 5lb. box so it's a no brainer to have it sent. Except that it takes 4 days to get here. In that 4 days it goes from Travelers Rest SC to Gastonia NC. Gastonia NC to Charlotte NC. Charlotte NC to Atlanta GA, Atlanta GA to Greenville SC, and finally Greenville SC to my house about 7 miles from the Greenville hub. Thats a lot of traveling, no wonder the USPS is failing. Bet Juan V. and his horse could get it here faster.

So, just drive over and pick the coffee up.

It is what it is. The only thing I can add is that there are interesting first class Forever stamps you can get at your post office besides the standard flag stamp. I plan on getting the Route 66 Forever stamps by Saturday.
