Looks like we got a 24 hour reprieve. However, Calgary had its largest snowfall in 40 years and the most snow on a January day, ever. 1.1 ft LOL.

I take it you’re talking about a snow event more than 40 years ago when you were a kid growing up in Calgary. I don’t think a polar vortex is anything sensational and was not meant to be. However, it is a weather phenomenon which will dump a lot of cold air into the USA on a short notice.I definitely snowed. Not more than what I remember as a kid growing up in Calgary. It's -15C on the thermometer right now so "polar vortex" seems sensational. It just looks like normal winter out there.
Polar Vortex is a silly name, back in day we called it cold snap
“Polar Vortex” is a term first used in 1853 and has been defined and studied since the 1940s.No one can claim to be a victim when it's just a mere "cold snap". So they had to dial it up to Polar Vortex.
Normal day? You’ll have a high of -14 C today according to the forecast. Here is a chart of average temps for Calgary. Have a look at the red line which is a plot of average daily highs. There is nothing average about today’s temperature.I definitely snowed. Not more than what I remember as a kid growing up in Calgary. It's -15C on the thermometer right now so "polar vortex" seems sensational. It just looks like normal winter out there.

It replaced the "Pineapple Express". You probably know that one.The MSM new phrase for the west coast storms is atmospheric river.I lived on the west coast for 90% of my life and never heard this phrase until last year.
Them thar “Northers” (our Farmers would say)It this one is not enough another Polar Vortex break out is headed to eastern Canada and a few NE States.
The overall warming is *categorically undeniable*.When cold air is blown out of the Arctic to lower latitudes, it gets replaced by warm air circulating north over the Pacific Ocean. A previous polar vortex excursion caused Alaska's Iditarod sled race to be canceled for lack of snow. Considering the whole globe, it is getting warmer.
You can take that to the bank!Them thar “Northers” (our Farmers would say)… Gonna keep them huddled at Whataburger a cup longer
