I guess my Lowes credit card has been open for over 20 years, not sure. I don't use the Lowes credit card. Synchrony is the bank behind the Lowes card, and I think the interest rate is crazy high.

Guess the closing of the account will hit my credit score by reducing my overall length of credit history. Additionally, I think my credit report for the Lowes trade line will state "account closed by issuer", which sounds derogatory.

It seems slowly my inactive accounts have been closed by the issuer. I though banks like to keep the accounts open, to say they have XXX million open accounts....

GON, due to inactivity, your MyLowe’s Rewards Credit Card account is at risk of closing.

Please use your card before 09/25/25 to keep your credit card account open and to maintain your MyLowe’s Rewards Silver Key Status.◊

As a reminder, credit cardmembers save 5%* every day or have the option to choose 6 months special financing** with a minimum purchase of $299.

It won't hurt a thing, Synchrony closed my DT and Amazon cards because I never used them after the initial promo I signed up for. The only store card I keep is HD because of the return policy and the 10% off coupons they send.

What a racket. If you don’t have money, you can’t get credit. If you prefer to pay cash, you won’t get more credit. If you don’t use credit, they take it away even if you can actually pay for it, then penalize you for being conscious of not overextending yourself financially or not wanting to pay usury just to postpone sending them money from your account.

If you just make a small purchase and pay it off, they'll keep the account open. I went at least a couple years without using the card at all before they cancelled them.

Sounds derogatory guess it will have an impact on my credit score and actually having an impact on credit scores are two completely different things.

Been down this road, and if you don't need the card, let them close it and be done with it. If you want the card, charge something small and move on...

No change to my credit report the last time the card holder closed the account due to inactivity... Three different cards where I had it for one reason or another and circumstances changed.

Very little impact. The way credit scores work is truly one of the most misunderstood systems there is. Tons of post elsewhere on the Internet showing just how ignorant people are. The following was posted elsewhere- "I am really upset because I looked at my credit report and the dealer who sold me the car pulled my credit and the next day Ford ( who ultimately did the loan) pulled it as well."
The dealer is going to pull it to MAKE SURE the car CAN BE financed SOMEWHERE.
Finally both pulls count as one and only affects your credit score for a very short time.

They closed my gas card account without bothering to tell me. I rarely used it but liked it for traveling. Finally whipped it out on a trip and it was declined. Called to find out why and they informed me they closed it due to inactivity. Like you GON I had that account at least 20 years ago.

They had continued to bomb my inbox with various promotions throughout. Rude! 😡

Now I just bill everything to @Zee09 which is much more convenient and the overall savings are fantastic. 😛

And my bills go to @AutoMechanic

And then you have Bank of America
Trip to Florida from Maryland with two gas stops and on the third when I hit Florida they locked down my card and had my email and text alerts activated but they never contacted me...

I call them from the gas station and they kindly tell me that two weeks before any trip it's best for me to call them and let them know....

Really........ yeah that's real smart...

I wouldn't worry about it. We have cancelled and had credit cards cancelled due to non-use, and it has not affected our credit rating at all. A possible short term effect, but long term no big deal.

They shut mine down last month as well. Only knocked a couple points off my score. No reason given, and frankly, I don’t care to have it anymore, anyhow.

Its more voluntarily/dont care closed.. if you used your card one time they keep it open.

That's not a bad thing. Once you have the card long enough it recognizes patterns and will not shut down like that. I feel its a little protection for theft or fraud if the card or numbers are stolen.Bofa also sends me a text alert if I write a large check to an unfamiliar party before they cash it.
