Another Coolant Option for Asian Vehicles

I can't keep the existing line of coolants straight, now they are adding an additional maker?? I wonder if Extended life pink (Toyota?) and blue (Honda, Subaru?) are the same coolant. Or if they are all the same, just with different concentrations or a different dye pack.

They have a supplier locator tool on their web site.

Each of the different colors appears to have a different formulation - and carries different manufacturer numbers.

Also of note are the O.E. P.S. fluids, Pentosin products and ATFs...

Very cool if they're easy to get at a reasonable price.

I'm using Peak Global lifetime in everything. No worries.

Easy to get at any NAPA store UNMIXED.

I also noted the power steering fluid for Honda/Acura, even their 0w-20 oil intrigues me.

If I could get their Extended Life Blue for a price better than the dealer, I'd be willing to try it. Pre-mixed or not.

After my recent experience trying to get a 50% concentration using Honda Type 2 premix,* looks like PGL full strength will be my next choice. Checked with local Napa store, can get it in a day (don't stock), for ~$16.50 a gallon. That may sound a bit high, but the equivalent amount of Type 2 (2 gallons) would easily cost ~$40 or more. Plus, I know I can easily get a 50% af/coolant concentration after doing a distilled flush series, with no waste.

*Reason for distilled flush series, Honda Dealer used conventional green during a recent head gasket replacement.

That's another story for another thread though.

You can get it at your local parts store that is a Beck/Arnley distributor.

I'd sure like to know where to find some nearby, I've been trying to use their locator tool. If it's close to $10/gallon I'm willing to try that instead of the the near $20/gallon at the dealer for Honda Genuine - Type II in my 20 year old vehicle.

Alright, I used their eCatalog and since no fluid recommendation regarding Anti-Freeze/Coolant was available for my car(92) I searched up a 95, and found that Beck/Arnley recommends the Green Concentrate from this new lineup in 1995-2000 Civics.

So, should I get the Green Concentrate and dilute it to 50/50 mix or go for the Extended Life Blue for my 1992 Civic???

I want provides the best protection for aluminum and is 'safest' for seals.

PS: Thought their FAQs was interesting.

Too bad the Extended Life coolants are premixed. How well would the red (Toyota) work in a Honda, since it's concentrated? I have a 2004 Civic.

Also there aren’t too many places selling this coolant.

My vote is for the green concentrate.

^My only other question is, how may this Green Concentrate be different than the green anti-freeze found in Prestone's pre-diluted 50/50 mix(aside from water), that I'm currently using?

Both claim to be free of the 'bad', etc.

What ingredients are in the Prestone?
Japanese manufacturers in the 1990s favored phosphate + organic acid salt coolant formulations, free of borates, silicates, and 2-EHA.

^I didn't notice the dreaded 2-EHA on the Prestone I'm using, and it claims to be free of silicate, phosphate, borates and nitrites. It DID mention sodium 2-ethyl hexanoate. Is this another form of 2-EHA?

The same ingredients were 'listed' on the Dex Cool GM approved Prestone bottle(dark grey).

I suppose each have 2-EHA but just aren't saying so otherwise. I was just going to try Amsoil's coolant or Honda Genuine Type-II until I saw this thread pop up.

They are one and the same. Not recommended for Hondas.

I found the Beck/Arnley Green Concentrate locally for $21.99/Gal, and funny enough the rep said 'its only from 95-00 models', after I told him I was interested in using it in a 92. I figure the Extended Blue is a 'clone' of HG Type-II and the Green Concentrate is closer to what was the original HG coolant back in the mid-early 90s b4 Type-II came out?
