I'm not so sure of what I'm about to post is allowed here or not. I'm posting it anyway.

BlueOvalFitter, Why don't you make a new thread when there are someones in your area need help in term of oil, filter, ATF ... I think some of use will pitch in the cost of parts and you spend some labor to help the ones in needed.

Of course, if someone demands Motul oil for his/her BMW or MB then we may not be able to satisfy their demands, but ordinary oil and filter or standard ATF are easy to do.

Think about and if it is okay with site owner and moderators, please post when you find new ones in needed.

Thats awesome! If we started a charity, I'd bet we would have a huge impact on alot of people's lives. Great work you both

I was thinking the same thing. Great Idea.

Not raining on anyone's parade. I actually think he's doing great work in helping out. Just want to make sure it actually ends up being positive. Thinner than specified oil Ina 30 year old truck with unknown mileage may cause other problems for someone who can ill afford them.

I've used a 20 grade in my fox body before. Car actually had a bit more light throttle pep.
Today's 20 grades are light years ahead of a 30 grade from the 80s and iirc they were hardly shear stable and sheared into a 20 grade in short order anyways.
Far better additive packages and better film strength in today's oils mean in reality it's a step up.
But someone's gotta rain on the parade I guess.

Another BITOG member saw the story I posted in this forum thanking 2015_PSD. He is BITOG member dlundblad. He PM'ed me asking if anyone in my complex needed an OCI. I told him that I would ask around and let him know. He insisted on sending the oil and I could use it or pay it forward. Well, before he sent it I found a VIETNAM VET that had just moved in. He owns an 85 Ford F150 and was in dire need of an OCI. I told dlundblad I had found someone. Not only did he send the oil, he went out and bought an FL-1A oil filter for the OCI!
In all, he sent a 5qt. container of Castrol 5W20 SynBlend, a 5qt. container with 3 qts. of Castrol 5W20 SynBlend, a MC FL-1A oil filter, and a FRAM XG2 ULTRA oil filter.
Thanks dlundblad, for your kindness and looking out for people that are less fortunate than most!

Kudos to you my friend for taking care of your neighbors.

We can thank the members of BITOG that posted AZ's Castrol clearance last winter. I literally have $8 wrapped up in the oil, the Ultra was "free" from AAP and the $4 MC filter.

I do agree with others about proceeding with caution about using this oil in the old Ford though. Might be an issue.. Might not. Perhaps just get a jug Castrol (or even Supertech) 20w50 and do some blending. He should get about 2 OCI's worth out of that.

That's a great idea. I have to go to WM tomorrow and pick up my prescriptions. What I can do is pick up a 5 qt. container of MSHM oil or Havoline HM oil, in the 10W40 blend. I can afford that. I can save the Castrol 5W20 for some other person that might need it.

While later versions of the 302 indeed were back-spec'd to 5w-20 when Ford did their back-spec'ing campaign the engine in the '85 has a number of key differences from your 302HO one of which is that it is flat-tappet and the other is that it has the SBC (non-HO) firing order, which is harder on the front two rod bearings.

How much does the engine hold?

You might get away with using 5 quarts of 10w40 and 1 quart of 5w20 as the top off.

HTSSR_TR: I figure it's a great way other than hacking filters open to help those gentleman and ladies less fortunate.
