Another "best oil for my car" question.

I've been reading a lot of the info here and at other sites. This is by far one of the best oil related sites I've found. That being said, I've decided to switch over to syn oil. I have a 1998 Lincoln Continental with 85,000 miles on it. I drive about 30, mostly highway, miles round trip to work. Plus some around town driving for errands etc. I'm looking to save some time and money by switching. Currently I use Mobil Clean 5000 and change it every 5000 miles. Which is about every 8 months. I'd like to extend the OIC to 10,000 so the cost of the oil is cheaper per mile and I save time by not having to change as much. So my question is what oil do you think is best? It has to be readily available at most retail outlets. It seems a lot of people like the Mobil 1 high milage formula. What do you think?

Welcome! The Mobil 1 High Mileage is a very stout oil. Its should serve you well. However, Mobil Clean is some darn good stuff as well and if 5000 is 8 months for you 10000 would be 16 which pushes you over the magic 12 month number. I can't say it would be an issue but I have yet to read many oci recommendations that push that long. Most seem to get antsy at about a year... Plus an oil change on an older car is a good opportunity for the observant to pick up on troubles in the comfort of ones own driveway...

A Quality synthetic will do for your 10K mile OCI you are looking for.

Would switching to Mobil H.M and changing it once a year be of much benifit?

There is the benefit of changing the oil less, which for some people is a good thing. Either way you'll be fine with your Mobil Clean 8 month OCI or using Mobil 1 High Mileage or Mobil 1 Extended Performance. If it were my car and I used Mobil products I think I'd use Mobil 1 Extended Performance once a year. Watch the sales there are some deals on it with a Mobil 1, or Pure One filter from time to time.
