….You can also fill through the dipstick if you choose, you just have to have a suitable funnel.
OT If you're referring to the 3.0L Honda, I'll qualify by adding, not 'ime'. Having done d&fs several times, if such a funnel is made it would have to be close to syringe 'like' narrow and then would be ridiculously and needlessly slow. That is why all instructions on ATF d&f on that engine never point to a dipstick tube fill, only designated top fill hole use. Thus as noted, top fill hole the designated and intended fill method, not dipstick tube.

That's unlike Nissan, which does use a less narrow dipstick tube, sometimes called a charging tube with CVT/no dipstick and is the designated fill method.

As the OP has not returned, not sure if topic vehicle has a dipstick and/or tube. As he came up with a satisfactory workaround for refill, would have thought if that option available he would have used it. I'm still wondering if all same year model have the same issue the OP encountered. If the top "fill hole" can't be used as in OP's case, not sure of the point of having one at all.

I wonder if that one ear can be ground down just a tad, or do those act as detents for the sensor?

The range selector is easily removed. Held to the trans body with 10mm bolts, center 12mm fastener. The hole on the arm is to align it with a punch/ KIA special tool with Neutral. Adjustments are needed to align it correctly then a scanner with the ability to reset , trans adapt values. Its not really needed to remove the "fill" plug anyways. Just remove drain bolt(24mm) , drain and reinstall drain bolt. Remove level plug(3/8 square) and fill with about 4 qts, reinstall level plug. I think people might be overthinking this. Its easier than an oil change.
