Good evening fellow Bitogers:

For those of you not in the know, I've been working on the long suffering but ever faithful "Bluesmobile" of late - a 1993 Ford Taurus GL, 3.0 V-6.

Replaced the radiator AND the thermostat. She's up and running and ready to go. System is completely filled with regular H2O at the moment and with nary a drop of antifreeze, (I wanted to make sure she wasn't going to leak before I added coolant).

Now, here's the question, before I run to Auto Zone and buy the old timey green coolant, I happen to have a gallon jug of the orange stuff that I bought for my daughter's Kia Sedona Van late last year but never got around to using.

I also have half a gallon of G-05 Antifreeze for the wife's 2004 Sebring which I bought last year to top off her cooling system as some had leaked out.

What would be the danger of using the Kia Coolant in the Ford Taurus?

What would be the danger of using the G-05 coolant in the Ford Taurus?

What would be the danger of mixing the two and putting them in the Ford Taurus?

Now that everything is up and running, I feel compelled to put in some antifreeze, but I'm still cheap enough that if I already have some, why not use it?

Thoughts, insights, wisdom before I take the plunge.

I would use the coolant you already have. I've mixed different coolants when doing emergency roadside repairs on commercial trucks before without problem. Being a 93 Taurus, Just pinch your pennies on that thing.

I'd add a bottle of Lubegard Red to that transmission even if you aren't have any issues!!!

that motor used regular old green. If it isn't picky, I'd definetely mix you g05 & kia. unless it's your main car and it must be reliable.
If this is the case, I'd put whatever green chepie coolant you can buy. it isn't to picky.

Be thankful it uses old green...tons of people with late model rigs that cant find appropriate fluids in their neck of the woods...(BMW/Volvo/VW...etc).

No danger at all...the chemistry might not be 100% compatible and less effective for it. But in the FL heat, and with a drain and refill of the radiator in 2 years, no worries.

1. What would be the danger of using the Kia Coolant in the Ford Taurus?....No significant danger. It is only a different corrosion protection chemistry.

2. What would be the danger of using the G-05 coolant in the Ford Taurus?....No danger. Ford uses a G-05 type coolant chemistry, so this is your closest OEM chemistry option.

3. What would be the danger of mixing the two and putting them in the Ford Taurus?....The worst outcome is reduced longevity of the Long Life Coolant chemistries you have; and a different coolant color.

4. Now that everything is up and running, I feel compelled to put in some antifreeze, but I'm still cheap enough that if I already have some, why not use it?..... I would do it.

Your going to need more than a gallon of G-05 to get to 50/50.

Not exactly sure about your engine but i believe it to be a total of 11 quarts in there. A gallon of G-05 will get you to 36%, and 1.5 gallons will get you about 54%.

I would buy another gallon of the G-05 since its the closest to OEM and you already have one.

Of course if you don't need it to last forever, mix away!
