And for my first post...something simple.

yes it is you could even top off with another type if you realy wanted to its my understanding that was just a old mechanics tale

Oils are compatible but it's never ideal to constantly switch brands, and it's certainly not a good idea to top off with a different brand unless you absolutely have to.

Guess I've been luckly for the last 30 years!

Agree with not doing your own blending using different brands, but I've used this brand then that brand and both long life and UOAs seem to be postive.

I sometimes think that switching brands here and there may be better...

But it does not hurt.

I now see why there is a "New Member" forum. I can say that I have learned some things from this site, and continue to do so.

I probably don't have much time left here so oileak save your money for good oil, filters, and frequent intervals. and don't continue to take automotive advice from paramedics and lawers (especially not lawyers).

Well, this is quite offensive. Thank you G-MAN, you are doing a good job.

As for myself, I feel I have to explain who I am. I am a paramedic by profession. I am also a firefighter. I work 24 hours and then I have 48 hours off. I have been in Emergency Medical Services for 7 years and I am 27 years old. I grew up in a home with enough money to be comfortable but not enough to pay for things like $90 mechanic hourly rates. My step-father did all the maintanance on our vehicles and he made it a point to make sure I knew what he was doing and was there to help. It was part of my chores. I helped with pretty much every oil change, and did most of them between ages 13-18. I have been interested in cars, and car maintainance far longer than I have been a paramedic. I love to help fix things, whether it be a person who breaks a leg from a fall, or a car that breaks a tie rod. I am here to learn more than here to teach. If I knew 1/2 of what some folks here knew about motor oil, I would consider myself blessed. I will only give my 2 cents if I feel comfortable with the knowledge that I am mearly relaying from other knowledgable professionals on this board or from my own experience with the topic.

Amen great post. Thanks for your service too btw.

If an engine is sludged over, but mechanically sound, all you can do is filter to the max or drain oil more often. I doubt any engine cleaner can get it all out.

Well, you'd be wrong. The cleaning effect of Auto-RX is well-documented. If used according to the instructions, and then used in maintenances doses, I have no doubt that it would eventually get all the sludge--every last bit. It may take a long, long time, but it will do it.

Well, and the "slowly" concept, along with the concept of a maintenance dose, that's the whole point, ain't it, G? I've always thought the benefit (mine own thinking, not that it means a damm thing) is a "cause no harm" issue. Yes, I want the cleaning, yeah, I'd like it to stay clean through extended drains, but whatever happens, I don't wanna take a sludged engine, dump a harsh solvent in there, and dissolve a "chunk" that then clogs a journal or passage.

To me, THAT is the value of the A/RX if I was looking to clean up a sludger that I did not want to rebuild. These kerosene/MMO flushes would make me nervous simply from the standpoint of chunkies getting loose to cause a clog. I haven't had a sludged engine yet, ever, but have I got the A/RX concept vs. regular engine-cleaning solvents correct?

I have learned certain things here, to my horror. For example, had you told me before my having discovered BITOG that some engines will sludge even with short OCIs, I would have considered you a fool. I had always thought that no engine could suffer anything like sludge, or even varnish, with short OCIs. Turns out I was wrong.
What we have here is a broad collection of education, theoretical knowledge, and experience.
I really enjoy the site, and I have learned a great deal from it. That is not to say that every post, or every reply, is the fruit of genius. However, we can all benefit through the sharing of our experiences and our hard-won knowledge.
WRT Auto-RX, I too would have dismissed this product as just another bit of snake oil or mouse milk, except that the theory of its function seems sound, and the experience of actual users, as portrayed on BITOG, indicates that the product does perform as advertised.
If I happen to acquire another sludged up engine, I will surely give the product a try.

Thats a good on with the formula.

Yes maybe some of these guys need Auto-RX snuck into their whiskey.

I think these guys need to look up the meaning of lurking for about 400 posts. A little too judgmental I would say.
