Got my results back from Terry today, thought I'd post them here. 97 Neon DOHC 2.0L engine;tested at 115,363 miles, with 3,263 miles on fill of SS7K 10w30(Schaeffer's Supreme 7000 synthetic blend); used Neutra 131 purge in last 700 miles of previous fill. Included over a dozen "banzai runs" (engine revved above 6500 rpm in 1st 3 gears

). All below are ppm or % where applicable.

Copper 2 low
Iron 12 normal
chrome 0 Low
lead 0 low
aluminum 3 low
silicon 11 normal
moly 88 slightly depleted due to first use plating
sodium 2 low
magnesium 46 normal
tin 0 low
zinc 853 normal
potassium 9 normal
phosphorus 777 normal
calcium 1620 normal
water, fuel, glycol all neg
soot 0 low, good
oxidation 34, on scale from 0-199, low, good
nitration 43, same scale, normal
sulfur 28 same scale, low
TBN 7 good, starts at 8
vis@100*C 12.2 10-12 new, 30W, good

Terry says overall, excellent results, he'd take next Schaeffer's fill to 6K w/no problems anticipated. I now have Valvoline 10w30 AC + Auto-Rx in car, will change back to SS7K 10w30 very soon.

Excellent results! As you know I'm switching to this oil soon so I'm glad to see it works well!

I like that thicker viscosity too, this stuff isn't thin like Mobil 1 10w30!

Curious as to why you did the Neutra purge then decided to go the RX route as well. Interesting to see if the RX made any diff after the Neutra.

Spector, call it the "shotgun" or "belt & suspenders" approach. I can only tell you that about 350-400 miles into the Neutra purge, the car began to run a little quieter, & compression braking improved. I suspect a clean crankcase to begin with, w/some ring glaze & similar deposits, but no "black sludge". Then ran Schaeffer 7K 10w30 for 3.2K, then Valv AC 10w30 w/Auto RX. After ~400 miles on the Auto-RX, car seemed to have picked up a bit more compression. 700 miles on arx now, feeling really peppy, I'll probably drain soon, but here's my take on it for now: both Neutra 131 & Auto-RX work.

I'll cut apart the oil filters from both of these before too long.

Glad to see the good numbers on the neon. I will be putting this same oil in my '92 Suburban
in the near future. This gives me the warm fuzzies already.

I was just looking over this report again, is this the SL formula or SJ formula? If it's SL, the
TBN on this oil according to the tech data from Schaeffer is 7.1. So that would mean the oil
did not really drop it's TBN at all! If it is SJ, then like Terry said, it does start out at 8. Either way it is still very impressive! I can't wait to get my analysis on Schaeffer (although I just put it in yesterday so it won't be ready to be sampled until November or early Dec)

Patman, the cardboard cases & labels on the bottles all say SL. Now that the Valvoline & Auto-RX is out, & Shaeffer's is back in, the little car is running *SO* good! Smooth, quiet, & get up & go! As my Daddy sometimes said, it runs like a scalded dog.

Now have ~900 miles on this change, I'll have it analyzed, too, in about another 4500-5000 miles.

I didn't even drive my car at all yesterday on the labor day holiday, so I've only done about
10 miles since I put Schaeffer in on Sunday. I can't wait to drive to work now, it should be interesting to see if I feel or hear a difference. Knowing that your batch was SL is great, as that shows that the TBN basically did not drop at all in your interval! That is one well blended oil! I see you are thinking of a 5k interval on this batch, what do you eventually plan on settling with? I personally would like to try for 9k, or maybe even 12k (not on the first interval of course, but by the third interval)

I'm an old, long-time 3K'er; I'll be plenty happy with 6,000 miles, might be able to force myself to 7,500 or 8,000 miles if Terry says it's OK. I really can't see pushing it past that, at least from the here & now. Not saying the oil can't do it, just that I wouldn't be comfortable with it.
