This was done by Blackstone - 5000 miles on oil, Fleetguard 3894 full flow filter, Frantz bypass:

 -

Here's the particle count:

 -

Now, according to particle sizes common to NEW, unused oil right outta the can, that particle count ain't BAD!

I did this for my own info - and also because we keep hearing of more bypass setups and new filter media hitting the market - I wanted some baseline #'s to use in comparison with any of those various owners might want to offer using their own specific brand.

So here we have some!

Any critics of TP filters wanna discuss "channeling", or deteriorating/shedding of the TP material when used as an oil filtering media?

The actual analysis up above as to various wear metals is OK for a bypassed engine, and probably not bad for a Cummins with mileage in the mid 40K range, used mainly for RV towing. A few more miles should see wear #'s fall even lower.

The Frantz-specific #'s pretty well speak for themselves...

Anyone else wanna play?

Can you try and make that image just a little bigger? I only need to scroll halfway across the screen to integrate one sentence. That's not enough.

Very clean oil

ISO Particle Count: 17/16/13,
Particles were:
>2 micron = 1,666,
>5 mu = 617 mu,
>10mu = 170,
>15 mu = 66,
>25 mu = 15,
>50 mu = 1,
>100 mu = 0.

This is from my full flow PureOne that was in service 9k/13m

There appears to be, roughly, a 3-4:1 increase in number as you go smaller.

This appears to work for just about any filter ..including a bypass.

You appear to have 10X the filtering across the board.

I think Blackstone's comment says it all: "..but your engine doesn't seem to care how long you run the oil."

This seems to support the theory I have in which my Cummins with just filter changes, should produce a similar report after a few years in which the miles on oil number just keeps going up with NO CHANGES, only the make-up added number will rise.

I'll need to ask about how this should be represented, cumulatively or per sample interval, dunno...

Just for grins, look at the analysis column just before this last one - that one was done on Delo that had been in the engine for 20,000 miles...

Too bad no particle count to go with it.
