Tire rotation time for the 15 F150. She sees lots of salt in northern NH and VT as well as plenty where I live in NY. She is a touch over 6 years old. I know from auto body shop owner that once rust starts all you can do is slow it or cut it out and replace the area.

The frame looks pretty good, appears to be light surface rusting. This was the area I see the most rust. I do try and get it through the wash after exposure. Wondering what your thoughts are.

Nothing to see there, IMO. Looks good for where you live. My son and I add some Rustoleum to the frame and control arms before every winter. My '12 is doing OK for being almost 9.5 years old. She just hit 76,000 miles.

That looks normal. If you want, use a wire brush to knock the loose stuff off and then spray some sort or rust converter first and then a rust paint. Then apply some rust preventer. You're in the salt belt, so normal washing would help. Do you park it in a heated garage in the winter?

Garage is heated but this beast remains outside 24/7!

Has anyone in Canada found a source for this (or the other good rust protection agents). Whenever I look for them they're not in stock.

I just use Krown or Rust Check, has worked well for us.
Thanks. Apparently no local Krown agent, but there is a Rust Check agent a ferry ride away.

Tesla cautions against any rust treatment but my Honda could use some help. It had one side damaged in a deer hit when almost new and there is some light surface rust on the under side corners of both doors and inside the rear wheel well on that side. The other side is original and, naturally enough, it's fine.

The Tesla should be fine anyway. If it lives its whole life here (on Vancouver Island) it will have near ideal conditions.

Why aren’t you using some form of oil undercoating?

I've lived in New England and NY my entire life (49) and never have used any form of undercoating. I usually purchase new and keep a vehicle 10-15 years and 200-250k. I have always gotten car washes with under spray soon after salt exposure. I haven't had a car/truck rust out on me yet. My old 2004 F150 is still going strong after 17 years. I do see certain suspension parts rust out eventually.

I'm not averse to under spray treatment, just never have. Might start late this fall.

Clean it with sandpaper and slather rust converter over the rusted areas twice, rattle can black over it.

After my last pickup was destroyed by rust I won’t ever not use it. I use NH oil. I strongly suggest you use it if you would like to keep your vehicle long term.

in the wheel area that is high spray some products are more durable.. in other areas you want products that creep.

IE if you like fluidfilm use woolwax in that area, and fluidfilm where its not a high spray area.
Note: woolwax is just thicker fluidfilm not a wax based product.

FWIW: that looks better than the in-laws 2013 equinox did at 18months old.

This was the lower rear control arm on my '15 Chevy Equinox after 6.5 years and 62,000 miles in PA. I also spray the underside off regularly during the winter and after a snow event. Yours looks great compared to mine. I had both lower rear control arms replaced last week.

It looks perfectly fine, just wash it and coat it with fluid film or a similar product like others have said. By many folks standards your 15 F-150 would be classified as rust free since some rust on the suspension and frame is just unavoidable.
