I talked to Amsoil last Week I talk to Tech-support they told me the Oil is made and it’s being made, but they will not release it until the old inventory is Used up first, how long that will take who knows
The dealer magazine graph for noack of the 0W-20 said 7.5%, but this summer magazine print has the graph showing it at 7.2%.https://cloud.3dissue.net/39168/39063/39466/148308/index.html
AMSOIL summer magazine announcing the new formulation. I think it’s a reprint of the dealer magazine write up but I didn’t compare them side by side.
Good catch. The dealer magazine graph for noack of the 0W-20 said 7.5%, but this summer magazine print has the graph showing it at 7.2%.
And won’t be affected by the imminent base stock crash !
Can you post a photo? My recent amsoil purchase included 2 gallons of ss 5w30 as well as 2 quarts of ss 5w30, the gallon jugs have the newer labels where as the quarts have the older style, I wonder if that means the gallon jugs are the new formulation and the quart bottles are the old, which oddly is fine if I were to worry about such things, the gallon jugs are to change the oil in my 7.3 f250 (currently old formulation) and the quart bottles are all the top off I think I'll need for the next year in my xterra (currently old formulation)
I can tomorrow.Can you post a photo?
You’re burning oil after running AMSOIL? The Xterra. Have you considered VRP for it or do you think it’s something besides the piston rings?
Interesting that AMSOIL burns so much less. Red Line’s Noack is about 5-6% so I don’t think it’s the Noack. I agree that that isn’t much oil burn for that many miles. But especially if you’re doing short OCIs, can’t hurt to do 3-4 OCIs and see if the burning goes away though.I can tomorrow.
I got my xterra for free at 204k miles, I spent 3 years fixing and modifying it into a decent off road truck, first oil change was m1 high mileage 10w30 which did virtually zero miles other than moving in and out of the shop, one of the repairs was a new oil pan and gasket, 2nd oil change was some redline 5w30 that I had laying around from a "fast" civic build I did for a buddy, I ran that for about 2 years, it tended to use a quart about every 2500 miles, presently has 212k miles on it and it has been filled with amsoil ss 5w30 since 208k, only uses approx 1/2 a quart of amsoil every 4k miles, I'd like to think that means 2 things, this engine despite the mileage is in pretty decent mechanical condition (going down the road it is very quiet very smooth, i.e sewing machine quiet) and that I'm guessing amsoil's low noack is helping a bit. I have considered R&P simply off what I've seen valvoline has developed a product that despite snake oil claims backs those claims up, I think what my engine burns is just normal for a 212k mile machine, don't think a vg33 that has its origins in the 80's is prone to the gunked up ring thing we see on a lot of newer engines
its also possibly that mechanically the rings have reseated a lot better than they were when I had the redline in there, it was in the shop for about 2 years as I worked on it when I had time, not like it was my job.Interesting that AMSOIL burns so much less.
