Looks to be a mostly group III, with some PAO and ester.

Comparison to old formulation near the end.

40 oxidation is pretty high for the assumption that it’s “mostly” group III; that combined with the fact that the only elements showing on this VOA is P, tells me that it’s more likely that Amsoil is using advanced additives rather than what some would interpret as “weak sauce”.

The testing done in my 75w90 thread shows Amsoil Severe Gear is a top-tier product, and physical testing carries more credibility than a UOA.

J2360 shows there are some poorly regarded brands that nevertheless pass some of the toughest testing!

Yes but seems big change in chemistry, visible data is more like GL4 spec which is impossible, so new hidden additive package or P/S or Ester development. It needs more analysis.

Well the oxidation is just signifying the presence of V, but at the end of the video he is claiming they downgraded it bc they moved to III. He has a tendency to assume when companies move to III's the product is no longer good, which we know is not the case.

Many gear oils today are formulated with a Multi-Functional phosphorus package.

Amsoil is also using a base oil (a new group V) that has been used in wind turbine lubes to extend wind turbine transmission life.

I don't know what he said but lower phosphorus levels do not infer lower EP capabilities.

I have Redline 75w-85 and like the bennefits of a PAO. Is Amsoil at PAO and would it do better or would a UOA need to be done to see?

You shouldn't doubt about Amsoil chemical, it's TOP most times. Even they could be using different base oil or even newer than RL, but RL is TOP too, both product are super but very different chemical in these cases.

Maybe send out the oil for a UOA and see how it does? It will be years before I put enough miles to see the difference.

Yes UOA is the real test, supossing same driving conditions, so little changes are ok. Sure both are good, but formulation is very different. If I were using RL I wouldn't change to Amsoil because "doubts", same in Amsoil case.

What's it do that mobil1 can't do, assuming a reasonable OCI?
It's probably more shear stabile, but topping off with 140wt m1 will fix most of that.
