Amsoil OR Mobil 1?

1) I've come across a great deal (I think) on Amsoil, about $5 qt, and now don't know which one to use?

2) Originally (thanks to the board) I was going to run for the Grand Cherokee Mobil 1 5w-40 and 528i Mobil 1 15w-50. Should I keep the same weights for amsoil?

Grand Cherokee is used for sales, driving about 50-100 miles a day. The BMW is driven about 6 miles round trip daily. Located in Louisiana, so it's hot...

No leaks on either, planning a ARX before switching...

Either one will work fine. Pick the one that costs less. For a Jeep, the general rule around here is that it likes a thick 30wt to 40wt oil. If you have the 4.0L, Amsoil seems to work good in these engines. I'd even consider the 5w-40 Amsoil.

I'm skeptical. I can believe $5 a qt. for certain Amsoil oils, but not all. S2K and S3K gotta cost more than that.

Are the one's I've listed s2k and s3k? Probably going with 10w40 for the jeep and 20w50 for the BMW. My job puts me in contact with numerous local shops that are Amsoil dealers. I didn't analize the price book, but saw some prices and the 5w40 is about $55.

AEA Walmart has 5 quart Jugs of Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W40 for $19. That is under $4 a quart! The only Amsoil oil I would use is their S3K and I am doubtful you are not getting it for $5 a quart. Anything is possable though! The older Amsoil oils are not worth their cost as compared to Mobil 1 Extended Performance!

Well, that's racking up a lot of miles fast on the Jeep. What engine do you have in it? Seems like you are a definite candidate for extended drains on this one.

The BMW being a short tripper, probably doesn't matter.

Where are those Amsoil guys when you need 'em?

Since your racking up a lot of miles fast, you probably want the most cost effective product over the long term, not just initial purchase price. I'll leave it up to the site sponsors to spec. it for you, though.

A lotta words being thrown out. The only value I don't see is the extra price for the new Mobil 1 offerings. Just because someone would only use one product or another of Amsoil's is kinda irrelevant to your question. I have seen nothing magical about Mobil 1 Extended Performance to justify the extra cost over the same....er...the old Mobil 1's.

Series 3000 is only 5w30 HDD.

Series 2000 is 0w30 and 20W-50.

There is no doubt if you read the bottle.

The best value per the original question is the 5W-40 Amsoil, if you can get it. And yes in your rigs it is better than the Mobil 1 5W-40.

$5.36 is a reasonable price when comparing any other oil on the market.

buster - as you well know there is a LOT more to an oil than starting TBN and a couple of additives.

Besides I was only comparing the 5W-40.

True. I'm not trying to argue, I just think M1 is a great oil when you consider it's a true synthetic, meets every spec out their and can be found everywhere.

Don't know what Jeep engine you have. My 95 Grand Jeep 4.0L is still running strong in my son-in-laws hands at 189,000 miles. 5,000 miles oil changes using Mobil 1 10w30 and PureOne oil filters since the first oil change. I purchase Mobil on in 5 quart containers at WalMart for $20 or about $4.00 per quart.

Maybe a bettr way to ask this type of question. Who has over 190,000 trouble free miles on a Jeep with xxx engine and used xxx or xxx oil and what is your oil consumption? That answer will get you a real world answer.

The "inside" info among some Amsoil dealers that I know is that
the HDD Amsoil 5w30 Diesel/Gas oil is one of their best products.
The owner of the company uses this in all of his personal vehicles gas or diesel.

IMHO I feel that the new European 5W-40 is also one of the better Amsoil blends.

As a fact that was verified by Amsoil is that the presidents car as well as the armoured cars that the secret service use to protect him all use Amsoil. Don't know which product, but I would guess the HDD 5w30. I'll put my spies out and try to find out.
