AMSOIL in my 5-Speed question...

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best synthetic fluid to run in my GetRag 5-speed transmission, that comes on the 2003 Chevrolet Cavailer. My stick has a very mechanical feel, and it grows much worse in the winter months. In fact, it becomes quite hard to throw in gear quickly in the winter. Someone suggested i use a synthetic 5-speed fluid.

I THINK my 5-speed has Dex 3 in it, not 100% sure. I have had other 5-speeds that never got this stiff and mechanical, and i have never changed the stock fluid in any 5-speed, as you really dont have to.

What should i switch to? What is SAFE for my transmission as i have heard alot of things about wrong fluids and paper syncros and blah blah blah, which is all greek to me because i am transmission fluid stupid. Any help would be great. What fluids would make my transmission shift nice and smooth!

The AMSOIL Product application guide shows AMSOIL ATF recommended, 3.6 pints for the 5 speed Getrag.

I have Amsoil ATF in my 5 speed Cavalier (2002) transmission and it shifts smoother in the cold than the factory fill, but we don't get the brutal cold here in VA that you get in NY. Recommended fill is 1.8 quarts.

My 2002 F150 with the 5 speed manual transmission uses Mercon/DexronIII. In the winter it was extremely difficult to shift with the factory Mercon and the general over shifting quality seemed poor. I then used Schaeffers #204S Dexron III Supreme, a semi-synthetic ATF, and the shifting in the sub zero temps was real easy and smooth. Plus the overall shifting quality improved a lot.
