First time posting on BITOG.

First UOA on 45,000KM Corolla Hybrid after 5,000KM.

I might finish up my case of Amsoil and try SuperTech 0W-16 after this @ nearly 1/2 the price.

Likely push intervals to 7-8K. I drive in extreme conditions so not willing to push the intervals to the Toyota 16,000KM.

If you plan to push out to a 7–8k OCI while staying with 0W-16, I’d stick with Amsoil. If you’re running SuperTech, I’d keep the OCI closer to 3–4k or consider moving up to an xW-20 or xW-30.

Your KV100 came back at 7.1, compared to Amsoil’s starting viscosity of around 8. Hybrids are known to introduce higher levels of fuel dilution, which isn’t captured in this test, and that would likely explain the viscosity drop at relatively low mileage.

OK, thanks for the info. I'm super new to this so I appreciate the clarity on the viscosity @ 100C coming down from 8 on such a short interval. This was a short run but it was used in +30C to -30C during the past 6 months. Might just stick with my 5000-6000KM intervals then and use Amsoil or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

Any thoughts on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum instead of Amsoil?

Viscosity started at 7.4 and degraded to 7.1.
Is there a fuel dilution test result in the posted UOA? I’m not seeing one if there is. Just looking to clarify.

That would be one factor to lower the viscosity if it’s present.

Also, to be truly accurate one must have a virgin sample of the fluid that’s being put in the engine to know the baseline. As Amsoil’s info states those are “typical” properties, but there is room for movement and so we don’t actually know the exact starting point of the oil that was sampled here.

Amsoil will serve your vehicle well. I’d be curious what a follow up UOA would tell. Is there any way you could use a different lab that tests for fuel? Amsoil sells test kits for Oil Analyzers and that lab includes an accurate test for fuel.

We would need to get a trend established regardless, but more data would be helpful.
