AMSOIL for Jeep 4.0

I have a 95 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 and wanted to switch to AMSOIL motor oil. I wasn't sure whether to get the

regular 10W or 5w30,

XL-7500 5W or 10w30 or

Series 2000 0W-30

Also is the engine flush any good? Bad?
Any input?

Well, since you're looking for opinions, I'll give mine.

It depends:

How do you drive your 4.0? Highway? Suburban? Typcial trip length? How many miles a year?

4.0 show better wear numbers on 40 weights. Just about ever 30 weight Amsoil ends up there anyway. If you're going to do extended drains and are a long tripper, I'd probably go with the 5w30 3000 ($$$). I'd also start the OCI in the late Fall.

If you're a short tripper ..a 30 weight appears to work well ..also 40 weights may tax your short trip fuel economy (as though economy is an issue with most jeeps) at least in the dino realm.

So ...how long do you want to run the oil change interval (OCI)??

I have a 95 GC Jeep 4.0 with 115k. I run 5w30 M1 in winter, and Mobil 1 10w30 in summer. My pressures are good at 65 psi highway speeds and 35 psi hot idle. I would not put a 15-40 or 10w-40 in my engine. My next choice would be 5w30 Amsoil.

The ASL/ATM would be fine but I'd use their new 5w-40 AFL. I think its a good oil.

While this was my first UOA and I don't have a frame of reference, based on looking at other 4.0 used oil analysis this oil has exceeded my expectations.

Well I do a mix of moderate driving.
15k a yr.
I figure I if I use a synthetic I will change my oil every 3-6 months.

Would a 5w30 be better than the 10w30?
What about Series 2000 0W-30...?

My 96 Cherokee 4.0 loves the Amsoil 5W40 European formula. Starts easily in the bitter cold, and no noticable drop in fuel economy.

I also have 5W30 Series 3000 HDEO (Amsoil) in my 2000 Wrangler 4.0 and like that as well. Hardly noticable difference when cranking in the bitter cold.

Both showed high iron numbers (although well within averages) on Mobil 1 10W30. I have yet to do a used oil analysis on either of the Jeeps with the Amsoil. That should happen early spring sometime.

I don't think you'll notice any fuel economy difference by switching to a XW40 weight. My Jeeps don't seem to see any decrease in fuel mileage. I would run a heavy 30 or 40 weight in it.

I would not change it before 6 months. Given that the 5w-40 AFL appears to be able to easily handle 10k ...why not go with that. You aren't in MN where your oil can't possibly get to any operating temp within 20 miles ..you're in Jersey ..the same climate I've got. You could probably go the full year on that stuff. You certainly can with Delvac 1 ..I think you should just go 6 months/7500 miles and do a used oil analysis. That will tell you if you can go further. If you use an Amsoil xw-30 weight ..you had better do it just before winter ..so it's just climbing to a 40 by spring.

I have a '98 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 and am having good luck with Amsoil 10W30 (ATM) with 10K OCI's and 5K filter changes. So far the Jeep seems to like it just fine. Per one of the Amsoil Reps. on the list I could easily run the oil to 19K or 1 year. But all I drive is about 10K a year nowadays.

what about the 0W-30? What kind of conditions is this viscosity oil meant for?

I really see no practical benefit to the 0W-30, unless you live in extreme cold. It's overpriced. Not a good value. I'm sure at the extremes it will last a tad longer than ASL/ATM, but that doesn't justify the price, IMHO.
