Changed oil to 5w30 Amsoil at 80k. Did Amsoil engine flush per instructions. Oil was very orange/light brown after flush. This filter has only 5k on it, 85k. I only bought this filter because it was right in front of me at the time of purchase.

I changed it out because I was worried that "if" there was sludge or build up, the filter might be in worst shape with all the cleaning agents in Amsoil.

I decided to change after a local shop servicing my car every 5k with Havoline regular oil and a very cheap oil filter. The shop made no excuses for the cheap oil and filter saying BG does all the work. They did always supply the BG oil treatment and BG fuel additive. I think the complete oil change was mid $70 when i was going to them.

I just changed to Mobil 1 $23.88 per 5 quarts at Walmart & a Carquest premium filter $7.89.

Ran in to one snag. The crush washer was leaking so I bought a $2 paint bucket from Walmart, dumped the oil, fixed the crush washer (i should have checked it) and I am back in business.

Need to put image tags
after the photo address. Example below.

You get into your Photobucket and bring up the pic you want to post, then on the right side you will see 'SHARE LINKS', under that heading there are a few options in boxes. Theses are link boxes, when you click on them, they copy to your clip board (automatically). Click on IMG link, it will pop up with copied... then you paste that link into the post image thing on the forum... make sure you are in 'FULL REPLY SCREEN' not just quick reply on the bottom of the thread screens.

Hope this helps.

What a sad, sad waste of a good filter.

What made you think that "Havoline regular oil" at that interval had caused sludge? Did this vehicles see a lot of very short intervals?

Everyday running around town. Wife is stay at home mom. There are a few trips here and there but mostly local within 3-5 mile trips.

Why did you pay $70 for a Havoline oil change?
You have been on here over a year so you should know better.
I doubt that your engine needed any cleaning treatment if you changed oil every 5k but it's your money.

Got it! Thanks Guys.
Looks like I can not edit after 15 minutes. I posted the whole link to all the photos. One at a time next time.

I know better now. It was convenient, in the warehouse right next to mine.

It was suggested by the Amsoil guy if it was switching to synthetic to use the engine flush.
I have complete peace of mind now.

BTW, the oil change was about a year ago. Other than if I use the car for work, it takes some time to accumulate miles. I try to drive it every once in a while on a 100 mile round trip when traveling for work.
