I've been going buckwild at NAPA, oogling over their massive new Amsoil collection. I've run 4 treatments of ARX, i am currently running RP 5w30 with LC. Going for Amsoil on the next OCI, curious if i should use the Amsoil flush since it's so dern cheap. Anyone use the stuff?

***! Are you anal or what? You've done 4 treatments of ARX - what would possess you to do that?

Having said that, what would possess you to do yet another engine treatment?

i just ran the ARX until the car stopped smoking...and it happened to take 4 treatments to get the sludge outta there. whomever had the car before me did not take care of it, for 80k mi.

i am possessed. i'll give you that. the additive fairy visits me nightly with a new treatment neatly written in sanskit placed beneath my pillow informing me which additive to next blow my money on....

Doing that many treatments of Auto-RX and then using a synthetic oil, as well as LC, which will also clean your engine, I highly doubt you'd have a necessary reason to use the Amsoil engine flush.

Engine should be sparkling clean now, and if there happens to be any minute amount of varnish or sludge, the Royal Purple and Amsoil will remove that.

the brownish-yellow varnish still remains, as seen by a deep peer inside+mag light, from the oil cap penetration. i'm going to get down to metal one of these days....

Is NAPA carrying Amsoil products nationwide now? Or is this something specific to your local NAPA?

Thanks, Bryan

It must be just a local thing, my local NAPA store has Royal Purple products.

The Amsoil flush works very well, I've used the stuff since they came out with it in 1980. However if you're already used multiple runs of ARX, the engine should be very clean.

I'd stick with the RP and see if it doesn't eventually clean up these "deposits". For your climate, I'd recommend the regular Amsoil 10w30/ATM when it's time to change oil again....

To speak to the Amsoil / NAPA question, they couldn't carry the nation wide. Last time I read the Amsoil marketing agreement (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the limit was a ten store chain. So you local, independently owned NAPA store could be a dealer and sell Amsoil, as long as that corporation didn't own more that 10 NAPA auto parts stores. This would prohibit chains like Pep Boys, Advanced Auto, WalMart, etc. from carrying Amsoil due to their number of stores in the chain.
