I recently used Amsoil engine flush. I have heard that this type of "shock" treatment is worse than a treatment such as Auto RX. Won't both products do the same thing in the long run? If Amsoil engine flush is used in a relatively clean engine are not both products safe to use?

If you need a quick cleanup, use the Amsoil flush. If you want a little more thorough cleaning do a 500 or 1000 mile purge with some Schaeffers Neutra. If you want some serious ester-based cleaning, and have the time and patience to go through with a 5500 mile interval (total, both phases) then ARX is a great way to go. I have used all three, each in different situations with success.
