Is Champ Labs making these (and FE and RP) or Chimp Labs at the old ruffles factory?![]()
You are liable to get high quality from Fleetguard or Donaldson (if they make one that fits your application), however it may be made in Mexico. Here I was thinking the amsoil can filters would be ok vs their cartridge brethren. I was going to keep buying them even given their ratings and (perceived) quality. WRONG!
I’ve already reached out to the regular guy csr from amsoil. They’re nice and offer to replace or refund, but what I really want is a high quality American made filter!

At this point, for Champ Labs made bypass seal areas, it's just the norm now. Not what one should expect to find in any oil filter but even more so on a premium filter. Fwiw, when I c&p a new Fram FE7317 it was to confirm what WhipCityWrencher found with a flashlight test. Been so many leakers seen since, seems like a long time ago now.
Thanks for c&p.
This makes me want to do a remote mount oil filter on the rest of my vehicles and switch to a large PH8A size filter.
The only everyday spin-on filter that used a gasket on the leaf spring was the OG Ultra and Titanium. Filters with fiber end caps will naturally provide a better seal on the leaf spring. Other filters being made (during the time of the OG Ultra and Titanium) with a leaf spring were just a metal-on-metal seal. But back then the leaf springs were stamped smooth and flat, not all ruffled and warped like they are today. What we're seeing is BOM cost reduction to the extreme, even a filtration engineer would understand and warn their managers loose geometric surface tolerance from high volume stamping would make a non perfect contact seal.
Exactly. Fram knew of a potential sealing problem way back then and eliminated the possibility of it ever happening. First Brands took a different approach…The only everyday spin-on filter that used a gasket on the leaf spring was the OG Ultra and Titanium. Thankfully I'm in good supply with those with the stash sitting in air sealed ammo cans. I'm likely not buying anything from them again after all in inventory is gone. The only everyday spin-on filter that used a gasket on the leaf spring was the OG Ultra and Titanium. Sad part is millions of customers are pretty much unaware of this except a few groups auto hobby enthusiast hanging around in the internet.Exactly. Fram knew of a potential sealing problem way back then and eliminated the possibility of it ever happening. First Brands took a different approach…
This was about 450How many miles did this Oil Filter Go?
Worst Brands don't care about that! That fibre ring costs MONEH!!!!Exactly. Fram knew of a potential sealing problem way back then and eliminated the possibility of it ever happening. First Brands took a different approach…
