Amsoil EaO15K09 filter for Toyota Corolla

I've had Amsoil 5w30 in my Corolla since 500 miles back in 2005. With 140,000 miles today, it's still just fine and I am completely satisfied.

Recently, Amsoil discontinued the EaO09 filter which I used on the Corolla and instead specified a Donaldson filter which is only specified for 7500 miles, so that's what I've been using since the last oil change. I read some posts here on the forum about how there were problems with the filter (or more correctly the engine) and whatnot. Like I said, I've been completely happy with mine and have had no problems.

But I just discovered that there is a new filter for this application with the designation EaO15K09. Is there a story behind this new filter? Has some problem been fixed? Is there any new info on the original reason for the change?

I assume you got or read the bulletin on the EaO09.

The new EaO15K09 is the same media as the EaO09, just more media and different construction, plus a shorter interval recommendation.

Unless you mean that [censored] generic thing that Amsoil sent out that didn't really say anything useful.

Yeah, I saw that. It just doesn't say much about the actual problem. What it doesn't tell me is if I even need to be concerned at all. Is this something that happens to cars that aren't taken care of? Does this happen to cars that don't have O2 sensors changed? Air filters? I don't buy the idea that all Toyotas have dirty engines, I just haven't seen that.

I would not be concerned at all. Yes of course this would happen if the car was not maintained. I wouldn't say all, nor does Amsoil say ALL -

but since these filters are used in many engines, Amsoil improved the filter and shortened the recommended interval and made the conservative recommendation for ALL to follow.

have you tried a bigger can like wix 1516/EAO 034. I stopped using the small wix 1394 awhile back in favor of the 1516 and has worked out better on my g/f RAV4.
just a thought.
