The Amsoil is rated for 15 microns @ 98% efficiency.
The PureONE is rated for 20 microns @ 99.9% efficiency.

The Amsoil and PureONE efficiencies are stated slightly different, but IMO they are probably at about the same efficiency.

I saw a recent thread in this forum that listed the PureOne efficiency down to 5 microns. I believe it was 99.x% or 98.x% at 15 microns (don't remember the exact % but i think it was 98+). I thought it was said the Pureone was higher than Aimsoil, but maybe it was another pricy filter like Mobil 1. Anyway I doubt the Amsoil is anymore efficient and certainly more expensive.

I know what the specs say about the efficiency of the MC FL820S, but I give some weight to the quote in the study that says.
"Whether price is a major factor or not, the Motorcraft FL820S Filter is near the top of my list for a filter to be used on a Ford product. Motorcraft does not claim the FL-820S has a particularly good efficiency rating, but to my eye the filter material is the same type as the Purolator PL24651 Filter or any of the “premium” filters with the cellulose/synthetic media. The Ford Racing Filter is clearley a "better" version of the FL-820S, but I don't think it is enough better to justify the much higher cost - at least for a properly maintained stock street vehicle."
Again, I like and generally prefer the Pure One, but for a Ford and 5k OCI, I'd pick the MC FL820S with base end bypass and silicone adbv.

Of the three MC, Amsoil, or Pure One, I'd take the Pure One, as good as, or better filtration and less money than the Amsoil filter. Now if I were running a 15,000 mile OCI then I'd be looking at a Mobil 1 filter. JMO

If you change the filter often then go with any filter if you want to change the oil and filter once a year go with the Amsoil filters and oil.

I bought a 86 T-bird new and drove it to work every day. Cold soak, drive 10 miles, cold soak, drive 10 miles, you get the picture. Drove it for 18 years like that using MC FL-1A filters. Only racked up about 250K though. Ran like a top. One day a friend of my neighbors asked me if I wanted to sell it. I was going to donate it to charity anyway so I said take it out. He came back with a big grin on his face. Said he was doing 100+ up and down the by-pass. He said I'll take it. I had not even set a price yet.

How long to you intend to keep this car? EaOs are great filters. MCs are good. I almost bought that Merc in 2002 but got a Sable instead. If it were mine I'd keep it for life. But the MC filter (based on my experiences) will only do you good for about 20 years or more of every day driving. Yep, $3.67 at Walmart.

I have a 1983 Chevrolet El Camino with 377,000 miles. So I plan on keeping this Marauder forever or until it falls apart.

Are we saying that the EaO Oil Filter or the new Royal Purple Oil Filter will protect the engine better than the Motorcraft Oil Filter.

The EaO would be better than the MC for sure. Not sure what the media is in the RP filter but it is bound to be measurably better as well. Not saying the MC is bad at all but we are talking about top shelf filters with the other two. And of course at a much higher price.

c3po, why not cruise over to the Marauder board and ask Paul Casey and Marauderjack which filter they're using? They both have well over 200,000 miles on their cars.

Never installed the amsoil filter. Our local auto parts sells amsoil oil but not amsoil filters.MC filters are easy to find and I use them .MC costs less with a good ADBV.

A few years back there was a Certified Lubrication Specialist here on the forum (George Morrison) who found that the Amsoil EaO filter was a more efficient automotive oil filter when compared to conventional paper cellulose oil filters.

By performing Pore Blockage and Laser Light ISO particle counts, he found the Amsoil EaO filter to be efficient down to 10 microns where the OE filter dropped off at 20 microns.

“The ISO cleanliness is reduced from 18/17/15 to 14/13/11 with the Amsoil EaO oil filter.” - George Morrison

He further stated that real world ISO particle counts are much more meaningful in determining oil filter effectiveness rather than manufacturer provided constant flow laboratory efficiency numbers.

Mr. Morrison was in the business of selling ExxonMobil products and had no financial gain by sharing his findings about the Amsoil filter.

But don’t take my word for it. If you want to read more, search for BITOG user GeorgeCLS or the thread Second Particle Counts Complete

George had some difficulty communicating with the board. He didn't, for some odd reason, want to post the data he used to determine somethings.

..but one thing that came sorta full circle for me was his assertion that the average filter that was reported as being a given beta level was actually not nearly as fine. He just couldn't express it well enough for anyone to integrate it.

It was all due to how the automotive filter's protocol for determining such thing is ran. The more indicative spec is nominal ..which is more likely to conform to day to day filtering. All filtering is on a curve.

I no longer demand ultimate filtration, but rather best holding capacity. Sometimes, you can manage both if you spend enough on media (which Amsoil does).

Not much mention of the Mobil 1 filters here, which are very good as well. I get mine as part of the OC specials that AAP runs. They are very well made filters, and from what I've read will do just as good a job or better as any of the other filters mentioned probably out to about 15,000 miles. JMO

+1 at Auto Zone. $38 for 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Extended Performance including an Mobil 1 filter. 2x per year.
