Amsoil EAO filter Microns

For those of you that have the Amsoil EA filter, you will notice that on one side of the box it comes in is an efficiency chart. Next to the Amsoil depiction (98.7% at 15 microns), there is one showing a "conventional brand name synthetic blend filter" at 80.23% @ 15 microns. Does anyone know is this is the M1 filter?

Amsoil says that under severe conditions (15,000 miles), a filter change is in order, of course only if you use their oils. I will go for 10,000 miles on mine to see how things go.

I really think that durability is not a huge issue with these EaO filters. They recommend 25,000 miles or one year. I heard from a dealer that went to a filter conference that in testing, they went to 40 or 60k miles and still were filtering well (with synthetic oil), but to coincide with Amsoil's "one year or 25k miles" recommendation, they dialed it back to a more believable interval. It was nice to hear that there is possibly some durability reserve capacity to their recommendation on these filters. At this point, I would rather go 25k miles on one of these than 10k miles on one of the prior SDF filters.

To go from changing the filter every oil change (~4,000 miles)to triple the distance is quite a leap. If I become convinced that this filter is all that I have been lead to believe, I will certainly stretch out the change interval. I will just have to play it by oil.

These filters look like the real deal, too bad they do not have one for my application.

I do not care enough about our intake gasket leak prone van to use such a good filter and Amsoil does not offer one for my VW TDI (Cartridge type filter).

Oh well!

Amsoil is comming out with new air filter applications next month, mayby some new oil filters will also be released. Pablo?

Sounds reasonable Winston, GC is a fine oil and combined with an Ea filter, there is no reason you couldn't go 10,000 miles on it. I would be interested in an UOA at that mileage.

I just had the oil changed today. I am on the third go round with the Amsoil Ae oil filter. What was startling was how clean the oil still was. The mechanic said he wanted to catch the oil and put it in his car.I highly recommend this filter, try it and see if your oil is cleaner than it's ever been. At last, a filter that actually filters!

I forgot to add, the magnetic drain plug didn't appear to have anything on it. When I wiped it on a clean rag, there was a small black smudge.

It is also important to note that the engine runs much quieter with the Eao filter. Has anyone else experienced this effect?

This has my interest.

I'll be doing an OC very soon on a 05 Vibe, which now has a Pure One filter. While I can't hear anything on cold start up or while running since I've switched to synthetic oil, I'll be keeping a close ear as an EAO10 filter will be swung in.

My engine used to make some clatter at startup. I have used the pure one filter in the past and until the engine warmed up, there was a definite "clatter" noise. Now with the new Amsoil filter, it's all but gone. Oil pressure is almost instantaneous and it is difficult to even hear the engine running!

cmhj, How many miles do you wait to change your oil.

Which synthetic do you use?

Before synthetic I was running about 4K miles between OCs.

The current fill is 5W-30 mobil 1 but will be switching to Amsoil.

Amsoil is an excellent choice cmhj, coupled with the Eao filter, I'm sure you will be able to go better than the present 4k OC you have been doing. You will be amazed at how clean the Eao filter will keep your oil.

harryJ,

I'd agree...I switched my Audi from the excellent MANN oil filter to an EAO-34 (yes I know it's not on the "official" application chart), and the oil is staying noticably cleaner after 4000 miles.

I changed out the factory oil filter for an oversized EAO-20 on my 2.5L Subaru Outback - but kept the factory fill in place - and the oil got noticably cleaner within 1000 miles.

I also installed an EAO-10 filter, on the 17 Hp, commercial Kawasaki engine used on my John Deere and play on running it for 100 Hrs in that application.

What's the stock size? EaO-13 or EaO-14?

Is it confirmed they use more of the same EaO-13/14 media in the EaO-20?
