It's a big thumbs down for that Amsoil 5w30 stuff that is "supposed" to be so great in diesels. All I know is I have seen a few UOA results with that stuff in PSD usage, and I am FAR from impressed with it.quote:

Believe it or not, the Amsoil 5w30 performed extremely well in my 6.0 PSD. You can look at my used oil analysis of it in the diesel used oil analysis section.

I don't have to look it up, I believe ya. Sometimes it does ok, but I have seen more than I like with elevated Iron.

Oh, so you're condemning an oil because of a couple of used oil analysis in ONE type of diesel engine?
If you drive a PSD, I understand. But if you don't, then the UOA info is meaningless to your situation.
BTW - I think I've read here that the 6.0 PSD (the PSD I'm assuming you're referring to) plays havoc on every oil that has been tested in it.
Well actually I'm more referring to the 7.3 PSD, but I think I have seen it with the 6.0 also. There is an UOA collection kept by a guy over at TDS that some of the Amsoil 5w30 reports show high iron. Then every once in a while, a newbie will pop up with a post asking why his Iron is so high compared to what it should be, it seemsd most of the time this happens, it's Amsoil 5w30HDD being used. Then of course there are the guys who have no issues with this oil and the balk at these bad reports because there is no way Amsoil could ever produce a poor result. The fact is, I have seen more than one truck using this oil showing this high iron, but I have seen some that don't. But I have seen enough with the Iron issue that to me it is an issue to be taken into consideration. BTW, this isn't a slam on Amsoil, it's focused on one specific oil made by them.

I can draw no conclusions from that spreadsheet other than everyone refers to it as gospel.
I just mentioned it as a source of reference. BTW, not all used oil analysis end up on there over at TDS. used oil analysis are only included on that list when a member chooses to be added to it.
