I have a amsoil Bk21 on my truck with both the oil and oil filter caps from amsoil. My problem is, it is a major pain to change the oil filter b/c when I untwwist the oil filter cap the line gets all wrapped up and I end up haveing to disconnect the line. Is there some type of fitting i can get to solve this problem? The amsoil tech said bp-89 woudl work but looking at it I don't think it is right. I think I need some type of elbow fittting?

Yes - the order would be:

1. (Your) elbow attached to the BP-89,
2. BP-89 attached to oil filler cap.

The BP-89 will allow your oil cap to rotate, while the elbow and return line remain (relatively) stationary. I'm using one on my Sprinter - works great.

Here is a (poor) picture of what it looks like:

The Bp-89 fitting works on the oil filter cap? The 6.0l Powerstoke uses an oil filter cartridge, not a spin-on filter.

We aren't talking about the oil filler cap by mistake are we?

Good eye 1OilLover - yes I was speaking of installing the BP-89 in the filler cap ..... not the filter cap .... although if the image that the OP posted is the filter cap the BP-89 might well be adapted to that as well ......

Do you have a picture of this BP-89 fitting?

I installed the Amsoil bypass on my 6.0l Powerstroke recently too, and would like a swivel fitting on the oil filter (not filler).

Is there any harm to loosening up the nut to disconnect the hose from the oil filter cannister top, so you can take the cap off to do a filter cartridge change?

I'm wondering if you loosen/tighten that fitting several times for oil filter changes if it would being to leak over time?

Look through these for more:

Frankly I'm not sure how well it will work in a pressure situation as on a filter cap.

Thanks Pablo.

I'm concerned that the "bolt" portion of the BK-89 fitting is too long to stick in the oil filter cap.

Any concerns with taking the fitting at the elbow apart then assembling several times (and it not leaking)?

It's brass - cut it off.

As long as you use something like an AN/JIC fitting (with a flare) that is designed to disconnected and reconnected I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I would NOT repeatedly disconnect/reconnect anything with NPT threads.

The spot I would disconnect/reconnect uses the JIC fitting that is flared.

I should be in good shape then. I'll leave my setup alone.

I got the bp89 fitting, even though i didn't think that was what I needed and I can't figure out how it will work. It also says to use for low pressure return only. Yes, i am trying to get this for the oil filter cap

It looks like the installation pictures link that Pablo posted, the guy is using the BP-89 in a pressure situation. I would go the safer route and just disconnect JIC fitting each time I change the filter.

Convenience but risky vs. Somewhat less convenient and no risk?

Those engines run about 10 grand....

Another possibility might be to use a hydraulic quick-coupler/quick disconnect - there are some higher-end ones that I have seen that designed and meant for use in situations where inadvertent/accidental disconnection would result in catastrophic failure - unfortunately I don't have a link handy ...... so you would have to do a search for it.
