I have a 2007 dodge cummings, going to change the trans oil. I have 3 qts of the old ATF which has the same rating as the new as far as I can tell for the Chrysler so can I mix them?

I work with a guy whose last name is Cummings. It's kinda awkward seeings how he works at a Detroit dealershp.

At least his name isn't Cummins. Or Caterpillar.

As far as mixing within the same brand and type of product, I don't think you could get more compatible. There is possibly a slight difference in viscosity and additives if the older ATF is 4 or 5 years old. But they will work fine together.

The old has a slightly higher viscosity, but the two are perfectly compatible so YES you may mix them.

Thanks Pablo and BMW thats a answer I was looking for, and No thanks to dave 123 since he had nothing of Value to add.

The ? was old vs new can i mix them answer yes. You did not ask for specific spec or change diff.

Walmart sells oem mopar atf4 for half the cost and will do just as well but thats just me.

Do I get a grade for my post, too?

yes you are almost as funny as Seinfeld, and 123 can keep his oem thats not as good for half the cost!

The Mopar ATF +4 is a "real" Group IV synthetic ATF. Might not be as good as Amsoil but its a group IV none the less.

Everthing I have read about ATF*4 is that its a Group THREE semi synthetic. No mention anywhere of it being a Group 4.There are only a few Group 4 synthetic trans fliud out there and Mopar ATF+4 is not one of them.If I'm wrong show me.

Many ATF+4 fluids are full syn, such as Castrol and Valvoline.

Given how much less they costs versus Amsoil, I'm sure Castrol and Valvoline are all group 3, possibly with some other groups mixed in.

Its clearly stated on the back of the bottle of Mopar ATF+4 that is uses Group IV base oil. I was under the impression that it was a group III as well.
