Here's a note I just received when I inquired about this on the AmSoil website:

We very recently completed testing and now recommend AMSOIL ATF for use in these Subaru’s. The main ATF page has not yet been updated to include this information.

Thank you for this opportunity to respond to your question(s). As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Technical Services

BTW, "these Subarus" refers to my two 4 speed automatics (2006 and 2007). I don't know if this fluid is recommended for the 5 speed automatics. I think this is good news, as the AmSoil cost is about the same as the Subaru Dealership ATF fluid, a good fluid made by IDEMATSU, but, I don't think the IDEMATSU is a synthetic.

Well, now when I use up the 16 quarts of IDEMATSU, I know what I'll be putting in! I drain/fill 3.5 quarts every 10,000 miles +/-. But, it only takes me about 4 months to use up all 16 quarts because of my mileage.

I'll recommend Ams ATF for the 4 and 5 speeds. I'll also recommend it for Mazda MV usage and a few other specs not-yet-approved by Amsoil.

How soon before they update their universal ATF technical application bulletin?
