AMSOIL ATF and SPIII

If it is proven to have failed, and you used it in accordance with Amsoil's recommendation, then Amsoil will back you up.

When I put Amsoil Universal in my Dodge Caravan, which was running ATF+3 before the fluid exchange, and it slipped horribly afterwards even after retraining, Amsoil corporate told me their fluid is great and the transmission must be defective. So I put ATF+3 back in and that was 120K miles ago. The "defective" transmission is still working, no repairs.

Good luck dealing with Amsoil (or any large corporation) when the dealer tells you the fluid is not approved and your warranty is void. How much are legal fees per hour these days?

Convincing argument and I can tell by the name you are a handsome devil with superior intelligence much like myself

Does anyone think it would be worth while to do a VOA on the SPIII I have in the garage? I have some OAI test kits. I don't know that it would answer the question/s but maybe take some of the mystery out of the FM in SPIII?

I would love to see a VOA of SP-III, it would be interesting to see what kind of add pack it has. Especially anti-wear. But to the best of my knowledge, FM level does not show up on a standard VOA.

Keith always has the same story, so I believe him. But I just can't account for the hundreds or thousands of folks running Amsoil ATF in Chrysler products that aren't slipping "horribly".

If you put Amsoil ATF in your SP III application and it doesn't work, Amsoil will give your money back. Simple as that.

Believe me, I have long since moved on. Amsoil works great in my out of warranty Cadillac STS.

It rubs me the wrong way though when I read that an unapproved fluid is SURE to work great every time, or the vehicle manufacturers warranty that specifically states which fluids can be used is just a minor detail that the fluid manufacturer will fall over backwards to sort out if something goes wrong. In my experience, that's bad advice and I'm not picking on Amsoil in particular. Any unapproved fluid is asking for more hassle than you need.

The situation changes after the vehicle warranty expires, and then the weight of anecdotal evidence might direct you towards trying out other fluids.

I went ahead and shipped a sample of fresh well shaken SPIII to OAI for testing, I figure I can at least use it as a baseline and take a sample when I change my fluid in July.

I installed Amsoil ATF in a quality rebuild A604 1992 Voyager trans. I did the retraining of the trans and installed a newer trans module(junkyard). It has the updated program.

This was 30 months ago. The trans shifts perfect. I have never had a problem with it in other applications. I am very happy with Amsoils transmission fluid.

I don't know what the deal was with Keiths trans though. Maybe the retraining did not take or he needed the trans module update per Allpar.com

My Dad drives like a bat out of #@$%!. Around the Holidays I drove his van and it has one of the nicest shifting transmissions I have ever driven.

I installed the trans with 123,000 miles and last time I drove it he had 170,000miles on it. I will be up his way in about a month and will check out the fluid condition etc.
I was also shocked that he had racked up 27,000 miles on Amsoil ASL in his engine.
