I'm getting ready to change the oil in my 2002 Dodge Cummins turbo diesel pickup. The truck has 77k miles on it. I used the last of my stash of Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40 with this last oil change. I want to try the Amsoil DEO product. I tried to do a few different searches on this forum but I couldn't get much to show up. I'm sure that my search technique needs help. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Amsoil DEO in their diesel powered pickup truck; if so, what are your thoughts. By the way, I use Donaldson ELF oil filters; Amsoil Eaau air filter and I change the oil and oil filter annually. Annual mileage is approximately 10-12k. I no longer do oil analysis.

I've used it in my lil diesel, not a medium duty one, with good results. (specific output of a fair 80 HP/L)

Never heard a bad thing about DEO over the years though.

It is a very good product and will do a great job for you. We have used it in our fleet since it came out back in 2007.

When DEO first came out, I had my doubts for usage in engine prior to CJ-4. Over time, it seemed to be doing fine, but the competition was pinging the sub 9 TBN. So Amsoil reformulated, pushing the TBN up and adding a new AW package. Frankly the new DEO 5W-40 is a fairly awesome oil.

Although it might be a bit pricey for 10-12k mile OCIs, it certainly is a product that can be used year round with good success. If the cost doesn't bother you, one annual OCI with DEO would be fine, presuming you have no lurking mechanical contamination issues.

Thanks for the responses and the search link. The CJ4 formulation is not an issue for me. As you know, the Amsoil oil website states that the DEO is backwards compatible. Besides, CI+ oil formulations are hard to come by these days. As dnewton3 has pointed out on this forum, CJ formulated oils are proving to be just as robust as the CI+ formulations.

My truck is mechanically sound. It uses less than one quart make-up oil between changes. (I like to keep the oil level on the full line).

If you should want a CI-4+ from Amsoil, they have 5w30 (HDD), 10w40 (AMO) and 15w40 (AME).

I had my doubts about DEO, but Bob Fout was kind enough to pay for comparisons of old/new DEO...
The new formulation looks awesome...almost same amount of ZDDP as AME...

Here's old and new for comparo:
