In my opinion, if Amsoil says "35,000 mile oil" than that's what I expect to happen. Instead, oil analysis shows 15,000 max. 20,000 if you're willing to risk TBN=0 and the resulting damage.

I understand you are talking about the Series 2000 0W-30. I was just citing an example of a 25K mile OR 1 year oil. But you missed my point and selectively cut my post. I wrote that it took me over a year - beyond the Amsoil recommendation. TBN 5.0 (Blackstone) and wear metals were low. The oil was tired - but it was doing the job. Frustrating I tell you. Would you like me/Amsoil to send the change interval guide to you?

The warranty states that you can go 25k/1 year, which ever comes first, without causing mechanical problems in a mechanically sound engine. I have run the regular 5w30/10w-30 over 20k miles several times. The oil does thicken up by 20%-30% and the TBN is pretty used up - it will typically be in the 2.0-4.0 range at that point. However, the wear rates are generally fine and the engine is still staying pretty clean with this type of interval.

Based on my own analysis results, I recommend 15k/1 year with the 5w30/10w-30/10w-40 and 20k/1 year with the Series 2000, 0w-30. You will get even better results with any oil if you don't run it out to the absolute limit.

I would also stress the one year time limit, which has been included to account for variables in driving conditions. I see folks running the same oil for 10-11 months and then complaining that it has significantly degraded. If you drive only 10k miles in a year, but most of it is short trip driving, this is as hard on the oil as 20k-25k of strictly highway driving ....

I used AMSOIL HPS 10w40 in my Honda Prelude for 13,000 miles with a filter change at 6350 miles.

The oil analysis at 6350 miles showed the oil was in excellent condition. TBN 13.5 and less than .02% insoluables, etc...

The oil analysis at 13,000 miles showed that the oil had thickened considerably and left the 40w range.

I do no think that 25,000 miles would be possible with any of their oils in a Honda H22A series engine. As such, it's really unlikely that the 35,000 miles interval would be possible.

As a general statement I doubt their advertising really is practicle or achievable in most engines.

In the Prelude, as the oil leaves the 40w range the valves begin to tap significantly... resulting in higher wear (the oil analysis showed this).

I forwarded 3 oil analyses to this tech showing how the oil had turned to crap at 15,000 or 20,000 miles respectively..... and therefore could *not* reach the advertised 35,000.

He did not respond.

I am taking his silence as quiet admission that I am correct: Amsoil Series 2000 can not go 35,000 miles unless you have a bypass filter.

Just remember the caveat: 35,000 or 1 yr. for that oil.
