Can anyone give me a recommendation on which of the oil mentioned in the subject would be best for an Audi 1.8T? It has almost 100k on it and I know the engine is prone to sludge so I want something that will keep it clean and keep it running smooth. I would like to use it year round and I live in Utah so any advice would be appreciated.

Both would work but I'd suggest Amsoil 5w-40 over both.

In North America I would run Amsoil ATM 10w30 first before I would run the 15w40.
You can also take a look at Amsoil's European 5w40 which is probably what is spec'd for the car. I just prefer lighter weighted oils.

I've used both the Amsoil AME 15w-40 and the Mobil Delvac 1/Truck & SUV 5w-40. I would base my decision on price, availability and your preference for either of these brands. As you may know the 5w and 15w aren't absolute values but ranges of viscosity. Mobil's 5w is pretty thick and Amsoil's 15w is pretty thin so there isn't much difference in terms of cold weather starting.

Bottom line: Either one is great.
