Amsoil 10W40 Small Engine or Amsoil Premium Protection 10W40?

Thanks for the responses. I really am only interested in running the 2 oils I mentioned in the original post. I have used Amsoil in my small engines for 17 years + and am not interested in switching.
I've really been impressed with Amsoil in my various small engine applications. Have put a lot of hard hours with Amsoil in my machines and they run like new.

Oil is oil.

+1 for the Amsoil small engine oil. It's a very stout oil. Some think high quality oils are throwing money away, and I would disagree. Premium oils are factually better spec than low-quality oils. It's impossible to measure if one oil directly correlates to longer engine life due to all the variables present. Think of it like eating healthy vs unhealthy. You can't definitively prove to me my life will shorten from eating pizza all day everyday, but we all know it isn't good.

Edit: definitely to definitively. had a typo.

+1 for the AMSOIL small engine oils too. Although it was hard for me to switch from the AMSOIL PP 10w40 because I've used this since the '90s in all my OPE and earlier Toyota trucks. I'm using this new Small Engine Oil (10-30/40) in all my newer OPEs, which includes my sweet Honda Generators and PW with a Honda 390 GXi engine. I'm sure most oils would be ok.....but when my Generator is screaming for hours on end, in an emergency situation, the last thing I want is to worry about oil quality. I don't drink or smoke so a few dollars "wasted" here is fine by me...

ls lq4 with 418k What engine is this in? What are you doing to get the oil consumption “under control “? High mileage tho…
The AMO 10w40 has great ZDDP numbers of 1265 ppm P and 1378 ppm Z.

It’s in a 04 Yukon Denali. Lq4 is a 6.0 ls motor. Heavy oil consumption started rapidly about 10k miles ago. All my oil leaks are fixed so that isn’t in the equation. I just put new valve covers on that are updated for the pcv system. So far there isn’t any smoke at all anymore. I’m also running Valvoline premium blue restore 10w30. You can only get it from Cummins. Bought 5 gallons of it and it’s a lot more aggressive than restore and protect. There’s no sludge at all in my engine so I’m confident on using it to get clean out the piston rings and anything else it comes into contact with. I’m also changing the filter frequently too.

It weighs a lot from the added weight I put in it and I tow often. Lake, David at hpl, and other knowledgeable people suggested for my use of the truck and mileage to use a 40 grade. The premium protection formulation from what I’ve heard would be better for my use.
I’ve ran hpl, amsoil, driven, Schaeffers, restore and protect, and others throughout the engine since I’ve had it. Bought it with 190k.

Here’s my post
