Why is the P so low?

From August of last year, it appears that Amsoil has made a formulation change:

In the above post, I had a VOA done (well, almost) and compared it to the UOA.

This VOA sample was right out of the 2.5 gal. bottle and into a sample bottle.

Thanks, I'm running this oil now. Molekule, the car you ran it in sounds like mine in terms of engine RPM's. I push 3200 every day for a good 35mins on the highway to work. Seems to beat the oil up pretty good. I posted you results below so I can see what changes were made.

First number was sampling at 1,151 miles to provide baseline, New Number's is second Np..

Buster,

This 4-cyl sees sustained 3,200 rpm for 70 miles a day, mostly highway miles. Redline for the Frontier is about 5,200 RPM but it has never seen over 4,500 RPM, not while I was driving it and unless my wife did something funky while she was driving it.

It doesn't appear so. Even the calcium levels were reduced.

Now the magnesium level was increased somewhat which should improve the tbn capabilites for a slightly longer drain interval, but I certainly would not consider this oil to be an extended drain oil.

Sorry, the 35 miles was one way. I also do 70 miles sustained at about 3k rpms.

Why did they reduce these amounts? API pressure?

As for the P. Maybe they will go for API. Don't know. We shall see but there has been no formulation change announcement just dealer backchatter,

I was thinking the same thing about the API certification angle, since this appears to be an SL level oil as far as the phosphorus level is concerned.

But then again, they already have an API certified oil with the XL Series, and the corporate skuttle is that with low volatility, they would not lower the P levels and compromise wear.

The boron levels remain at approx. 35 ppm.

Let the used oil analysis speak for the oil. MC and GC have tought me this, two weak looking oils via VOA.

TFOUT of 500> mins for ATM is very good. I think P is down to 1,000 ppm.

Buster, was that second oil analysis your Corolla (that you posted above)? Those wear numbers seem high for a Corolla.

As to the rpms, yea, my 94 with the 7AFE (1.8L) does about 3300 rpms at 75 mph. I'm going to school this semester about 50 miles away, so I'll be putting a good 100 miles a day on my car, with speeds of about 80-85 mph. You have to go that fast around these parts just to keep up with traffic. I hope the little beast can sustain 3500-3600 rpm for such a long time

I just got my used oil analysis back on my tacoma which i wasnt really impressde with, thought it would be better and that the lead was too high. My saturn had an amsoil 5w30 put in about 2 months before my truck and the used oil analysis was great. Within those 2 months the difference is obvious in the oil.
