Just the regular 2.3. This was SEVERE service. This oil was put in with 4,000 miles on the car and run until 14,000 miles. I drive this car very aggressively. It's a quick little car. Handles great. It also uses no oil, probably because I broke it in hard. Basically 50% was that type of driving, the other 50% was my wife taking this car to the train station everyday to work 1.9 miles away.

Not knowing what numbers to expect with this engine at this low a mileage it's hard to say. Most do much shorter OCI's during the break in period that you can see the trending downward.

You didn't say that you dumped it, buster. I assume so. What did you refill with?

That is true. I think it's a good report and clearly break-in metals.

I have Amsoil XL 5w20 in now. Had a quick lube place put it in. They carry Amsoil/PP/M1.

Buster...I would say it's not horrible considering a lot of this was break in wear, as stated. TBN looks good. 12 might be in reach.

Amsoil guys...I've got the same car, 28k miles, used a few different oils at 4k intervals. Safe to say I'd be OK running this oil 8k, mostly highway miles? Car should be more than broken in by now. I tend to think these are easy on oil.

Buster..I agree. Great car. Getting ready to throw a new set of rubber on at 28k, and I am HOPING things go well financially so I can spring for a borla in the spring! :)

What OCI you gonna use for the XL? Maybe try some SSO and go 12k.

I think this fill was installed at the first oil change. By that, I mean the previous oil was the factory fill.

Pretty incredible results considering the type of service.

Agreed. I talked to Buster via PM, and he mentioned the filter was whatever the quick lube had. So, with a quality filter and after break in, this oil looks like it will really handle a 10k OCI well.

The best part it, this is really severe service. Easier service would probably yield better results..maybe borderline amazing.

Gary..Pablo...any comments in response to my post above? I'm really considering switching to this oil, or maybe SSO. My commute is getting REALLY long soon, and a longer OCI would be great. 10k would PERFECT. about 2.5 changes a year with my driving!

I'm thinking of kicking it off with an 8k change, then moving to 10.

Pablo..any thoughts on using SSO in this app, or is ASM sufficient?

What's your projected annual mileage? 20k+? If so, start at 6months and test. You can just go right to one year. One oil change isn't going to do anything to an engine. Test the stuff you dump to see if anything is odd.

Projected mileage is about 22-23k. I know I should do a UOA, but will I? Who knows. I think this shows 10k is going to be just fine in normal service. So...that's probably what I'll go with!

I'd think so.. (and hope so!)

Really can't tell if you could go the distance with this since the new motor.

How long are you going to take the XL buster?

I think its prob one of the best oils out there.

Bill

XL has 7,500 on it now. Planning on going back to 0w20 ASM most likely.

You just changed this oil, and you have 7500 miles on the XL you replaced it with ALREADY? You do 7500 miles in a week/two weeks?

Anyway, are you going to sample the XL? That would be an interesting comparo....

As for this run, considering the fuel, the break in, and the severe service, the oil help up really well - help visc. and TBN really nicely....

No the 0w-20 sample sat in a closet for at least 8 months before I decided to send it off.

Eh...not sure. I usually only like to do UOA's once a year and with things the way they are, I'm probably going to hold off.

Did this possibly skew the results of this sample?

I'll be sending my first sample to Blackstone soon and was told by them to send it fairly soon after taking it, didn't ask them why.
